Pokemon GO Memories in Motion finally fixes biggest shiny issue

The next season of Pokémon Go, called Memories in Motion, will finally let you find shiny versions of Pokémon that have evolved or are Shadow Pokémon in the wild – a change players have been asking for a long time.

Niantic announced that the “Memories in Motion” event will take place from March 3rd to June 2nd, 2026. It will include daily rewards, some changes to gameplay, and a significant update to how Shiny Pokémon appear in the game.

When Pokémon Go first came out, finding shiny Pokémon in the wild was mostly limited to their original forms. Players couldn’t catch shiny versions of Pokémon that had already evolved unless they appeared in raids or special events. Now, that rule is changing.

Evolved Pokemon can finally appear as shiny

Niantic has announced that any Pokémon that can evolve into a Shiny version is now available in the wild – as long as the original, unevolved Pokémon’s Shiny form has already been released in Pokémon Go.

This update allows Trainers to find the middle and final evolutions of Pokémon families in their Shiny forms in the wild, as long as the original Pokémon’s Shiny version is already available. This also applies to Shadow Pokémon rescued from Team GO Rocket – if a Shiny version of that Pokémon has been released before, you can now find its Shiny Shadow form.

Niantic announced that it will be easier to find Shiny Pokémon in Raid Battles and by hatching Eggs than when finding them in the wild. You’ll also have better odds of rescuing Shiny Pokémon from Team GO Rocket leaders and Giovanni compared to regular Team GO Rocket Grunts.

This update solves a major problem for collectors who have been working for years to complete their Pokedex by evolving basic-form Shiny Pokémon, instead of trying to find the fully evolved versions directly.

The update to shiny hunting will go live alongside the new season on March 3.
