Netflix’s Pride And Prejudice Trailer Unveils Elizabeth Bennet & Mr. Darcy In Jane Austen’s New 6-Part TV Show

Netflix is preparing a new miniseries adaptation of the classic novel Pride and Prejudice, aiming to captivate both longtime fans and new audiences.

Even two hundred years after her passing, Jane Austen’s popular novels, like Sense and Sensibility and Emma, still captivate readers. Her stories, considered classics of literary fiction, have gained even more fans thanks to countless TV and film adaptations. Pride and Prejudice is the most adapted work, famously telling the romantic story of the independent Elizabeth Bennet and the proud, wealthy Mr. Darcy during the Regency era.

Following numerous well-known adaptations of classic stories, Netflix is releasing a new take on Jane Austen’s beloved Pride and Prejudice. A recent trailer introduces Emma Corrin and Jack Lowden as the latest actors to play the famous couple, Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy. The short teaser highlights the strong connection between the characters, opening with Elizabeth watching the sunset from a rooftop before being drawn to the sound of a horse.

The teaser ramps up with fast-paced glimpses of the developing romance, featuring close-ups of a letter and book, a dance, and the potential suitor watching his beloved depart. It concludes with the dramatic arrival of Mr. Darcy on horseback. The characters remain silent, letting natural sounds and birdsong build anticipation for their passionate connection in the upcoming Netflix adaptation of Pride & Prejudice. Watch the teaser below.

Netflix is creating a six-episode series based on the novel, similar to the popular 1995 BBC adaptation starring Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle. Dolly Alderton, who wrote and is producing the series, said she’s excited to revisit the book and find both traditional and new ways to tell the story. Netflix promises a classic and faithful adaptation of the beloved novel, and Euros Lyn will be directing.

As a film and TV buff, I’ve been following who’s behind the scenes, and it’s great to see Laura Lankester, Will Johnston, and Louise Mutter from Lookout Point – the folks at the BBC – involved as executive producers. It’s even more exciting that Emma Corrin is stepping up as an executive producer in addition to starring – that’s a lot of dedication! Lisa Osborne is handling the producing duties, rounding out the key creative team.

The cast of the Bennet family includes acclaimed actress Olivia Colman, along with Rufus Sewell, Freya Mavor, Rhea Norwood, Hopey Parish, and Hollie Avery. This series will also bring Olivia Colman and Emma Corrin back together – they previously acted alongside each other in season 4 of The Crown, playing Queen Elizabeth and Princess Diana.

The cast also features Jamie Demetriou as Mr. Collins, Daryl McCormack as Mr. Bingley, Louis Partridge as Mr. Wickham, Siena Kelly as Caroline Bingley, and Fiona Shaw, known from the Harry Potter films, as Lady Catherine de Bourg.

Netflix’s new miniseries aims to appeal to both longtime fans of Pride and Prejudice and those discovering the story for the first time. The classic tale has been retold many times, famously in the 1940 film starring Greer Garson and Laurence Olivier. More recently, adaptations have experimented with the story, like the 2016 action-horror film Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, which starred Lily James.

As a huge fan of Pride and Prejudice, I’ve definitely noticed the two most talked-about adaptations are the miniseries with Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle, and the 2005 film starring Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen – directed by Joe Wright, of course! It always sparks a discussion amongst us fans: who was the better Mr. Darcy? Firth really nailed Darcy’s pride and that dry wit, but Macfadyen brought out a more vulnerable, awkward side to the character that I found incredibly compelling. Both are fantastic, honestly, just in different ways!

It’s hard to say how actor Lowden will portray Mr. Darcy differently from previous versions, though early glimpses suggest a particularly charming character. During an interview on Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg, Lowden playfully mentioned that his Darcy will have red hair, calling it one of the “final conventions to subvert.”

The brief preview doesn’t show us what Corrin’s take on Elizabeth Bennet will be like. Previously, Ehle played her as intelligent and true to the original book, and Knightley presented a more modern, romantic, and lively version of the character.

Netflix is revisiting Jane Austen with a new adaptation of Pride and Prejudice, but they’ve explored her work before. Their previous attempt was Persuasion, starring Dakota Johnson and Cosmo Jarvis, based on Austen’s final completed novel from 1817. That version received mixed reviews from both critics and viewers.

Netflix has given fans a first look at its upcoming adaptation of Pride and Prejudice, but the short teaser doesn’t show much about the central romance or how it will compare to other versions. Still, it’s a welcome addition to Netflix’s growing library of historical romance series, like Bridgerton and The Empress. A longer trailer is likely to be released soon, offering a more detailed preview of this new take on Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy.

Netflix’s Pride and Prejudice will premiere sometime in the autumn of 2026.
