Dog reunited with owner after running away for a month in Rocky Mountains

A dog and his owner are happily reunited after the dog was lost for 43 days in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. The dog ran off briefly during a road trip stop, and the pair were separated.

Finding a lost pet near home usually takes a few days and involves things like making flyers, posting on social media, and asking neighbors for help. However, if your pet escapes into more remote areas, the chances of getting it back are much lower.

Steven Maa’s ten-year-old dog, Rocky, ran away while they were driving from New Jersey to California.

A 10-year-old’s dog, Rocky, ran away while being cared for by a dog sitter in the Rocky Mountains. His owners, Maa and her partner, immediately began searching for him, even facing a snowstorm in their efforts to find him.

Ultimately, Maa needed help from Summit Lost Pet Rescue, a local nonprofit dedicated to finding lost pets. They set up cameras and notified the community, and within three days, they spotted Rocky.

It took another 40 days to find him, but they finally located him after spotting him on a Ring doorbell camera.

I felt terrible, so I explained to the owner that we had to find this dog, Montezuma. He’d been missing for over six weeks, and I was really worried – I figured he was probably starving and close to not making it. That’s why we jumped in the car and headed up there, like, immediately.

Despite finally seeing Rocky, Ciullo said the dog remained scared and didn’t return until he was coaxed back with peanut butter after a few hours.

Maa described reuniting with his dog, Rocky, on February 13th as a very emotional experience, especially seeing how overjoyed Rocky was to see him.

It was really reassuring to see that he was still himself – his personality and feelings hadn’t changed a bit, which was also unexpected.

I was so happy to hear this story! It’s incredible – a dog in Florida went missing for ten years, but they finally found him after 43 days! Even though he was already 15, he got to go home to his owner back in January. It just goes to show you never give up hope!
