Evangelion Studio Begins Piracy Crackdown After Its Exclusive New Anime Release Leaks Online

To celebrate its 30th anniversary in Japan, Neon Genesis Evangelion is holding a special event in Yokohama City. Fans are getting a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the series, hearing about what’s new with the franchise, and learning about future plans. Recently, a brand new Evangelion anime was announced, and a short film created by Hideaki Anno was shown.

The short film was meant to be seen only by people at the event, but recordings and pictures quickly appeared online. Soon after, the full film with English subtitles was widely shared on social media, and Studio Khara released a statement criticizing the unauthorized sharing of these recordings.

Studio Khara Cracks Down on the Spread of Its New Evangelion Anime Short

Evangelion’s Studio will “Take Strict Measures as Necessary”

When Hideaki Anno announced a new animated short, fans of Evangelion were very excited, especially since Evangelion 3.0+1.0, released in 2021, had been promoted as the end of the anime series. This led to a huge wave of people searching online for any glimpse of the new project over the weekend.

The latest release centers on Asuka, showing what she experienced during Instrumentality and the Third Impact. It then transitions to a title card displaying “27” and plays the song “Komm, süsser Tod” from the 1997 film The End of Evangelion. Within hours on February 21st, fans had already shared clips and images from the anime across various social media platforms.

The following day, event management released a statement, saying:

We’ve discovered that people have been secretly recording performances of “EVANGELION:30+;” STAGE AREA and sharing those recordings online. This is against our rules and could lead to legal consequences. We’re monitoring online posts and will take action against anyone who shares unauthorized recordings. We appreciate your cooperation in helping us protect this event.

Before the event, it wasn’t clear if the anime short would be shown in theaters or made available for purchase. However, after seeing the positive response from fans online, Hideaki Anno said he’ll try to release as much of the event footage as he can.

Evangelion’s 30th Anniversary Event Has Sparked Discussion and Excitement Among Fans

The recent Evangelion anime short, and the confirmation that Asuka and Shinji are now officially a couple, weren’t even the biggest surprises from the anniversary event last week. The most exciting news was the announcement of a brand-new Evangelion anime series, being created by Yoko Taro (known for Nier) in collaboration with Studio Khara and CloverWorks.

This will be the first animated project in the Evangelion series not directed by Hideaki Anno. It’s a great time to be a fan of Neon Genesis Evangelion, but please avoid sharing or engaging with any unofficial content related to the “EVANGELION:30+;” event.
