Maya criticized Lacy on his live stream for quickly buying and then giving away two leopard geckos, reminding him and his audience about the importance of responsible pet ownership.
While many know Maya Higa as a Twitch streamer, her real dedication is to protecting animals. She runs Alveus Animal Sanctuary, which is expanding to provide a home for a diverse range of animals – from emus and chinchillas to wolves. The sanctuary aims to teach people about these creatures and give rescued animals a safe, permanent place to live.
I really admire that Maya isn’t afraid to speak up when other streamers aren’t doing right by animals. She actually did this on Lacy’s Twitch stream recently – she called him out after finding out about his new pets. It’s awesome to see her use her platform to advocate for animal welfare!
Maya calls out Lacy for giving away pet Leopard Geckos
In January 2026, Lacy and Marlon, a well-known Twitch streamer, bought two Leopard Geckos. These lizards are highly popular as pets and are known for being gentle and easy to handle – they’re even considered one of the first lizard species people have successfully domesticated.

The couple even called Maya during a livestream for parenting advice about their lizards. She encouraged them to ensure the lizards lived happy, fulfilling lives.
The streamers were surprised to discover that Leopard Geckos can live for as long as 20 years—a fact they learned after already purchasing the reptiles.
Marlon and Lacy reached out to Maya for advice on caring for their new gecko. They were reminded that getting a pet is a big responsibility and that it’s important to do thorough research beforehand to ensure you can provide proper care, setting a good example for anyone watching.

Even though Lacy told Maya he wouldn’t, he rehomed the lizards a few weeks later during a live stream. He gave them to Silky’s assistant in early February.
Lacy said she thought the children were better cared for with me. She offered to let me take full custody and be their father figure, stepping up to fill that role.
Maya was furious with him after he revealed in a Twitch stream on February 22nd that he was giving away the animals. She scolded him because he’d previously promised to care for them for their whole lives.
She advised him to look directly at the camera and say, “I promise to always research before getting a pet, and everyone else should too.”
Humbled by the situation, Lacy followed instructions and reminded his audience to be responsible when caring for their pets.
Maya at Alveus Sanctuary was really upset with Lacy for buying two leopard geckos and then returning them after only a week. This happened after Lacy previously returned a cat after five days, gave her Labrador Retriever to her brother, and gave two geckos to a friend.

Okay, so this video of me and this other gamer went crazy online. Apparently, a lot of people are giving me props for telling him that getting a pet isn’t something to take lightly – it’s a big responsibility, and I’m glad it’s getting some attention.
Maya recently shared an update about the monkey Punch, who became popular online. She explained that the rough treatment he received from other monkeys is normal behavior within their social group, reassuring those worried about him.
