Evangelion Didn’t Need Another Series, But I Believe in Yoko Taro

The popular series Neon Genesis Evangelion is getting a new installment, but with a twist! Instead of Hideaki Anno, the creative force behind the original, Yoko Taro – known for his work on the Nier games – is now writing the story.

Neon Genesis Evangelion began as an unusual anime about teenagers piloting giant robots to battle bizarre alien creatures. It gained popularity for its in-depth look at its characters’ minds, its exploration of difficult themes like depression, and a famously confusing final episode that left many questions unanswered. Over time, it expanded into a larger franchise with video games, films, merchandise, and even a recent reboot.

Crunchyroll recently announced a brand new Evangelion project is in the works. Details are still scarce about what this new installment will be, but they’ve shared who’s writing it – and it’s a surprisingly great fit.

Yoko Taro Is Writing A New Evangelion Series

It Just Keeps Tumbling Down, Tumbling Down, Tumbling Down

A new Evangelion series is in development from Studio Khara and CloverWorks, revealed at a celebration of the show’s 30th anniversary in Yokohama. Kazuya Tsurumaki, who directed previous Evangelion films, will direct this new project, with Yoko Taro – famous for his work on games like Nier and Drakengard – writing the story.

Taro is famous for designing video games that are often confusing and have unexpected twists. This unique style actually makes him a perfect fit for working on Evangelion.

Taro is famous for his video game work, but his games are often known for being confusing and having unexpected, strange conclusions.

As a huge Evangelion fan, I’m so curious to see what they do with the next installment! It all started as a TV series, but for years now, we’ve gotten new stories through movies. The biggest mystery is whether this new project will continue the original Evangelion storyline, build on the Rebuild films, or if it’s going to be something completely fresh and separate. I’m honestly excited either way, but I’m dying to know!
