Say Hello to Greedfall 2: The Dying World’s Companions

Following a period of early access that began in September 2024, Greedfall 2: The Dying World is officially launching on March 12, 2026. The game has improved significantly since its initial release, but it remains to be seen how well developer Spiders has addressed player concerns about the first game, particularly issues with polish and changes to the combat system.

Players seem to agree that the world and characters in Greedfall 2 show a lot of potential. The game’s setting, inspired by the Age of Exploration—a time of European colonization and the discovery of the Americas—is unusual for a fantasy RPG. This blend of fantasy and historical elements creates interesting situations and compelling character interactions, especially with the game’s companions.

The following includes Safia, and Till, who were added during Greedfall 2‘s early access period.

Nilan, the Friend

Nilan grew up with Vrider Gerr, the main character in Greedfall 2, and is known for being headstrong and preferring to keep to himself. He’s often unfriendly towards people from outside Teer Fradee, believing they are responsible for the problems facing its inhabitants. Similar to Vrider, Nilan is training to become a doneigad, but he thinks the sacred knowledge of Teer Fradee should be reserved for its own people.

Nilan excels at fighting from a distance, beginning the game equipped with a bow and arrow. He’s also skilled in magic thanks to his strong spiritual beliefs and bond with the land of Teer Fradee, letting him add magical effects to his attacks and help his teammates with supportive spells.

Fausta, the Spy

Fausta is a clever and enigmatic companion you’ll meet early in Greedfall 2. Though once part of the powerful Theleme society, she’s been exiled for reasons that aren’t immediately clear. When you first meet her, she’s working undercover in Olima. Fausta is charming, careful, and always thinking ahead, using her wit and friendly personality to get what she wants from others.

I’ve always been fascinated by this character – she’s a spellcaster, but what’s cool is she doesn’t need tools like wands or staves to do her thing, it’s all raw magical ability. And honestly, given where she comes from – Theleme, a place known for its bright, scholarly magic – it totally makes sense. They’re all about dedication and pure magical skill over fancy equipment.

Sybille, the Politician

Vriden Gerr and Fausta are imprisoned together in Olima, and Sybille orchestrates their escape. Sybille belongs to the powerful and manipulative De Vespe family, and her personality is entirely shaped by political skill and plotting. This makes her interactions with the main character unreliable, as even her voice actor notes she’s unpredictable. Like Nilan, she’s naturally suspicious and doesn’t trust easily – qualities essential to her family’s work.

From the beginning, Sybille fights like a classic rogue, wielding two daggers. Her fighting style matches her personality – she’s sneaky, subtle, and consistently manages to stay ahead of her opponents.

Alvida, the Pure-Hearted Sailor

Alvida is a good friend of Sybille’s, and they met while Alvida was working as a Naut. In Greedfall 2, the Nauts Guild is made up of the world’s best sailors – they’re the only ones who know how to navigate the game’s oceans. Because of this, they’re known for being brave, wise, and skilled adventurers, which makes them great companions in an RPG. Although Alvida is part of the Nauts and respects some of their traditions, she doesn’t like being told what to do and always follows her own sense of right and wrong – that’s why she ends up working with Vriden Gerr. In battle, she prefers to fight up close using a saber.

Ludwig, the Ex-Soldier

Ludwig, like the other key characters in Greedfall 2, follows his own set of principles. He’s a former soldier who now works as a smuggler, and he strongly dislikes the wealthy and corrupt. While his morals aren’t always strict, he has a clear sense of what’s right. He doesn’t care much for heroes or being accepted by society, and is primarily focused on protecting the vulnerable and fighting against the powerful elite.

By the start of Greedfall 2‘s story, Ludwig has left the military, but he’s still a skilled fighter thanks to his past training. He’s another close-combat character who begins the game with a hatchet and excels at using blunt weapons.

Safia, the Wise Adventurer

Safia is the oldest member of your team in Greedfall 2, and she’s known for her wisdom and tendency to gently scold younger characters when she feels they’re acting dishonorably or inconsiderately. Don’t let that make you underestimate her, though – she’s a highly experienced explorer and mapmaker who firmly opposes the imperialistic forces at play in the game’s world. This combination of worldly experience and strong principles makes Safia a particularly resilient and insightful companion.

As a film buff, I’m always excited about characters with unique weapons, and Safia definitely fits the bill! She’s another ranged attacker who shows up with a pretty beat-up, but cool, Rusty Rifle. What’s really neat is she isn’t just about dealing damage; she can also learn skills that help support the team, which adds a nice tactical layer to things.

Till, the Noble Leader

Till leads the Coin Guard, a large and powerful group of mercenaries. He’s incredibly loyal, fiercely protective, and always keeps his word, making him a reliable friend. Despite appearing tough on the outside, Till is actually a kind and thoughtful person, and he’s also very clever and resourceful. He fights with a large two-handed sword, which makes him a strong and durable fighter.
