Burglars stole approximately $180,000 worth of Pokémon cards from a California collectibles shop by digging a tunnel through the wall overnight.
According to police, the suspects first broke into a nearby business and then broke through a wall to get to DOWE Collectibles in Anaheim. They stole hundreds of valuable cards very quickly.
Security cameras captured the group breaking into display cases with tools and then running away with the stolen trading cards.
Thieves knew what they were looking for
Duy Pham, the store owner, told KTLA that he found out about the break-in when a security alarm went off early in the morning. The stolen goods are estimated to be worth $180,000.
“I watched the security footage and saw the suspects entering through the hole they’d made,” Pham explained. “It really made my heart race.” He added that the thieves seemed to know precisely what they wanted and didn’t bother with anything else in the store.

People came specifically to collect the trading cards, some of which are incredibly valuable – one card can sell for as much as $10,000. It’s clear to everyone involved that there’s a lot of money to be made, he explained.
Over 500 collectible cards were stolen, but it’s unclear if they were ungraded and valuable in their raw form, or if they had already been professionally graded by companies like PSA or Beckett. Police say the thieves drove away in a dark-colored car.
Earlier this month, Logan Paul, a YouTuber and WWE wrestler, surprisingly sold a very rare and old Pokémon trading card for over $16 million. Although it’s still unusual for cards to fetch such a high price, this sale made headlines.
As a Pokemon fan, it’s crazy to see how much some of the newer cards are worth! People are paying thousands of dollars for them online, which unfortunately makes them a huge target for theft. It’s really worrying, honestly.
