The Pi Core Team, in a stunning act of bravery, took to X (formerly Twitter) to announce the latest blockchain update, which was successfully migrated. Protocol v19.6 has been implemented, leaving only v19.9 before the highly-anticipated v20. Because nothing says “excitement” like a decimal point.
The announcement also urged nodes to upgrade, presumably to avoid being left in the digital dust. Or perhaps just to ensure the network doesn’t collapse under its own weight of bureaucracy.
Network Update: Protocol v19.6 migration successfully completed. Next up is v19.9 – the final step before v20. Node operators should make sure they’re upgraded and stay tuned for further instructions:
– Pi Network (@PiCoreTeam) February 20, 2026
Recall that the team first outlined the upcoming series of upgrades last week, stating that Pi nodes have until February 15 to complete their migration. Or, as the team put it, “Don’t be late, or the network will judge you.” (It’s unclear if the network has a judiciary, but it’s probably best not to test it.)
In the explanatory post, the team described nodes as the “fourth role within the Pi ecosystem.” A role so obscure, it’s like being the fifth wheel on a bicycle. They need to run on laptops, not phones, because your phone is clearly not a supercomputer. Unlike Bitcoin, which requires solving riddles to validate transactions, Pi uses a trust-based system. So, if your friends say it’s okay, it’s okay. Trust is the new gold.
It’s worth noting that security circles created by mobile miners form a global trust graph. Because nothing says “secure” like a network of friends agreeing on things. The Core Team also emphasized that Pi’s entire concept is to work under a user-centric design. A design so user-friendly, even your grandma could operate it-if she had a laptop and a vague understanding of “decentralization.”
Progressive decentralization, they call it. A strategy that allows the network to become fully decentralized while still being accessible. Like slowly turning off the lights in a room while pretending you’re not in the dark.
