The new movie starring John Cena and Idris Elba is a hit on Amazon Prime Video! The 2025 action comedy, which focuses on politics, has been chosen by viewers as one of the platform’s top films, performing well in both the U.S. and internationally.
I was checking out what’s trending on Amazon Prime Video today, and I noticed Heads of State is doing really well! As of February 20th, it’s currently number six in the U.S., and it’s been bouncing between sixth and ninth place all week. But it’s not just popular here – it’s a hit internationally too! It’s actually number three in Egypt and sixth in Saudi Arabia, which is pretty cool to see.
Released on Prime Video in July, the film Heads of State features John Cena as the U.S. President, Will Derringer, and Idris Elba as British Prime Minister Sam Clarke. These two normally opposing leaders must team up to survive a threat from overseas. The movie also includes a strong supporting cast with Priyanka Chopra, Jack Quaid, and Stephen Root.
With such a talented cast, it’s easy to see why Heads of State resonated with both audiences and critics, becoming one of John Cena’s most well-received films in recent years. Currently, the film has a 68% rating on Rotten Tomatoes from critics, and a slightly higher 69% audience score. While some found the movie predictable and the arguments between the leads a bit much, it was still praised for its exciting action and being an enjoyable experience overall.
John Cena Isn’t Opposed To Making a Sequel to Heads of State
John Cena is open to making a sequel to his movie Heads of State. He recently mentioned that while it’s early to talk about a follow-up so soon after the film’s release, he would be interested in working with director Ilya Naishuller on another one.
John Cena told Esquire that he has a lot of respect for director Ilya, describing him as someone who’s “easy to work with.” He also said that whenever Idris Elba has a project, he’s always happy to be involved, and he’s confident they’ll create something he can be proud of.
Even though he’s excited about the possibility, John Cena said he’d prefer to carefully consider returning as President Derringer. He explained that it’s often better to let audiences fully experience and react to a project before rushing into the next one.
We want people to have fun with this, and if it’s popular, we’d love to do another one. That way, we can get valuable feedback from our audience – things like what they enjoyed or what they’d like to see in the future. We don’t have to implement every suggestion, but it would definitely help us shape the next experience. I believe in gathering that input and using it to improve as we go.
Heads of State is currently available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.
