As a critic, I can confidently say this 4-part series on Netflix is among their absolute best miniseries in years—possibly even of all time. It originally dropped almost a year ago, in late February 2025, and it still holds up as one of the most captivating and critically praised shows they offer. Seriously, it’s a must-binge.
Despite receiving perfect reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, this series has largely been overshadowed. A newer four-part Netflix miniseries called Adolescence, released in 2025 and co-written by the same creator, became a much bigger hit.
Toxic Town Is A 100% RT Masterpiece On Netflix – What It’s About
I just finished watching Netflix’s Toxic Town, and honestly, it’s a standout miniseries – a real masterpiece, in my opinion. It’s hard not to compare it to Adolescence, which was the streaming giant’s critical darling last year, but Toxic Town absolutely holds its own and is something you shouldn’t miss.
Jack Thorne, a British writer and producer, created both Toxic Town and Adolescence. He developed Adolescence alongside Stephen Graham. Toxic Town received critical acclaim, achieving a perfect 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes, and also resonated with audiences, earning an 85% audience score.
The documentary Toxic Town tells the real-life story of mothers in Corby, England, who fought for justice after their children were born with disabilities. They believed a poorly managed factory released harmful chemicals into the environment, leading to these birth defects, and sought to hold those responsible accountable.
“Toxic Town” shares a lot of similarities with the Netflix miniseries “Lead Children,” as both are based on real events and focus on the harmful effects of pollution on children caused by unethical industry practices. Many viewers have found the series deeply touching, well-made, and a compelling story worth watching all four episodes in one sitting.
Watching All 4 Episodes Of Toxic Town Is A Perfect Weekend Binge
If you enjoyed shows like Lead Children or Chernobyl – stories about real environmental disasters and the people they impacted – you’ll likely love Toxic Town on Netflix. It’s a great choice for a weekend watch.
The show features excellent acting from its entire cast, including stars like Jodie Whittaker (known from Broadchurch), Aimee Lou Wood (The White Lotus), Joe Dempsie (Game of Thrones), and Rory Kinnear (The Diplomat). Ebaster gave the series a 7 out of 10, praising it as a British miniseries on Netflix with compelling characters and a solid story based on a significant legal case.
Despite receiving perfect reviews and becoming a top 4 hit on Netflix globally last year, Toxic Town didn’t seem to get the recognition it deserved, including being overlooked at the 2025 Emmys. However, it’s a fantastic series and well worth watching over a weekend – it could even be considered one of the best limited series Netflix has ever produced.
