Japan has new school where all the teachers are VTubers

A tutoring company has introduced what they claim is Japan’s first online learning platform staffed entirely by active VTubers (virtual YouTubers).

Luminaris, a company based in Tokyo, introduced its new service, Wish High, on February 17th, as reported by ITmedia News.

This online platform offers tutoring from currently popular VTubers. They’ll be available to help students with subjects like math, English, physics, chemistry, classical Japanese, world history, Japanese history, and geography.

Students can join live online classes for ¥9,900 a month, which is about $65 USD per course.

VTuber school opens doors to new students

These online courses are designed for high school students, but students in middle school and adults are welcome to participate too.

The company is addressing a common problem in online learning: students often have trouble staying focused during typical video lessons.

The company noted that as more students learn online, there’s a growing problem with some falling behind and not grasping the material when they can’t keep up with video lessons.

We’re offering a learning experience that combines the convenience of online classes with engaging lessons taught by VTuber instructors, allowing students to keep learning and growing.

To mark the launch, a group of VTuber instructors will be doing live streams on YouTube starting February 19th. They’ll use these streams to introduce themselves and give an overview of the courses they offer.

The merging of real and digital life isn’t limited to VTuber teachers. Last year, a VTuber agency even started a unique service: renting out VTubers to act as virtual grandmothers for people, both young and old.
