Perfect Grade Gunpla models represent the pinnacle of Bandai’s model-building expertise. These kits are large, packed with parts, and full of interesting features to explore. Building one takes a considerable amount of time and money, making them a real challenge even for experienced modelers. New Perfect Grade releases are major events for Gunpla fans, and they don’t come out very often – often years apart. Because of this, choosing the right PG kit can be tough, and you’ll want to know which ones are considered the best.
Best PG Gunpla as of 2025
This list might not agree with everyone’s opinions, as I’ve tried to consider how valuable, well-made, and fun each item is. I especially love the Universal Century series, so my choices are definitely influenced by that! But generally, most of the Perfect Grade models are pretty good.

PG Unleashed RX-78-2 Gundam
MSRP: $300
Bandai’s Perfect Grade Unleashed RX-78-2 is their most detailed model kit yet, boasting over 1,000 parts and a truly impressive build. Its intricate, layered design is a sight to behold, making it a dream come true for gunpla enthusiasts. The model features numerous opening hatches and visible pistons, creating a realistic impression of a fully functional robot. Despite its complexity, the PGU Gundam is surprisingly easy to pose, with over 90 points of articulation allowing for dynamic and effortless positioning.
The PGU RX-78-2 is a significant project, requiring both time and money. Even experienced model builders should expect to spend about 25 to 30 hours completing it. Surprisingly, Bandai doesn’t include waterslide decals with this kit – or any of its Perfect Grade models – so you’ll need to purchase them separately if you want a truly polished look.
PG GAT-X105+AQM/E-YM1 Perfect Strike Gundam
MSRP: $300
While several versions of the PG Strike Gundam exist, the GAT-X105+AQM/E-YM1 Perfect Strike Gundam is the most complete. This kit contains all the pieces you need to build it, including components for:
- Strike Gundam
- Aile Strike Gundam
- Sword Strike Gundam
- Launcher Strike Gundam
- Perfect Strike Gundam
Okay, so they really went all out with the extras – you get a ton of stuff in the box! But, and this is a big but, the Skygrasper itself? Still sold separately, and good luck actually finding one in stock. It’s frustrating, honestly.
This model can be a little tricky to pose in its Perfect Strike mode. Luckily, it comes with a stand to help with positioning. If you’re a fan of Seed, this is the kit for you.
PG RX-178 Gundam Mk-II
MSRP: $160
The RX-178 is a surprisingly good kit, even though it was designed 24 years ago. It’s a well-made model that showcases what makes the Perfect Grade line special, all at a very reasonable price. You get a highly detailed kit with features like moving pistons and opening hatches, and it’s only a little more expensive than a top-of-the-line Master Grade. This makes it an excellent choice for anyone looking to start building Perfect Grade models.
Okay, so this model is a bit older and relies on polycaps – those plastic joints – but honestly, the fundamental design is so solid it largely overcomes any potential weakness those parts sometimes create. Building it was genuinely a blast! My only advice? Be careful with the chrome pegs connecting the body to the cockpit, and definitely keep an eye on those clips that hold the sliding leg mechanism together. Those were the parts that felt the most fragile during my build.
It’s strange, but even though the AEUG version of this model is often seen, I’ve never come across a PG RX-178 painted in Titans colors. Because of its rarity, you’ll likely have to pay more to get that version from resellers.
PG RX-78GP01 Gundam “Zephyrantes”/Fb
MSRP: Around $400
The PG GP01 is like getting two Gunpla model kits in one! You begin by assembling the standard Zephyranthes form, and then you can customize it with the Full Burnern parts. This impressive model is perfect for display, and it comes with a special stand designed to showcase the GP01, its upgrade pieces, weapons, and a core fighter.
This particular model is currently hard to find. Unlike most other Perfect Grade Gunpla kits, which have been re-released often, the GP01 hasn’t been re-released in a long time. However, it’s likely Bandai will produce another run soon, possibly within the next few years.
Perfect Grade Kits to Avoid
Look, these ‘Perfect Grades’ aren’t *terrible* movies, but as a film fan, I can tell you they have enough issues that a lot of serious collectors probably won’t bother with them. They’re just not quite top-tier, you know?
PG MS-06F Zaku II
MSRP: $140
As a big fan of the Zeon’s grunt mobile suits, the Zaku II was my only choice in the Perfect Grade line. It’s honestly a bit disappointing though, because out of all the Perfect Grade kits I’ve built, this one has been the most frustrating so far.
While I tried to be patient with the PG Zaku II, considering it was an early Perfect Grade kit, the building experience wasn’t very fun. The head’s LED installation is tricky, involving a needlessly complex and unreliable electrical circuit. Plus, the power pipes were the most frustrating I’ve ever worked with on a model.
Zeon model kits are famous for their tricky power pipes, and these are especially difficult to build. They’re made by stringing small, bead-like pieces onto springs. It’s incredibly frustrating because if you lose your grip on a spring before attaching the end cap, all the pieces scatter and you have to rebuild it completely. The springs are also prone to bending, meaning you might attach the finished pipes only to find they don’t look right, forcing you to disassemble and essentially start the whole process over.
The PG Zaku II is an older model kit that uses a lot of polycaps for its joints. This means the armor pieces connect with small pegs, and while the internal frame is strong, the model can feel fragile once all the armor is attached. It also requires a lot of seamline removal, and surprisingly lacks detailed surface features – especially the shield, which is a simple, plain piece of plastic.
You have a choice between the standard green PG Zaku II and the red version based on Char’s suit. Plus, it’s quite affordable now, often selling for around $120 to $130. Just be aware that this model is best for experienced builders, as it requires some skill to look its best.
