The Mandalorian and Grogu are returning for a new adventure! Plus, a new and formidable character from the Star Wars universe, Embo, is making his first live-action appearance. If you’re unfamiliar with Embo, we’ll fill you in.
Disney and Lucasfilm have been very secretive about the new movie’s story. Fans were surprised the Super Bowl trailer seemed to be a playful nod to classic beer commercials rather than a preview of the film itself, which comes out in theaters on May 22nd.
Good news for Star Wars fans! Disney just released the full trailer for the upcoming Mandalorian & Grogu movie – the first Star Wars film to hit theaters since 2019. The trailer gives a preview of Din Djarin and Grogu teaming up to take down Imperial leaders and working with the Hutt clan. And surprisingly, Martin Scorsese even makes an appearance!
A quick scene introduces Embo, a strange alien who looks reptilian and wears a big hat – you see him walking in the rain. He might not be a familiar name, especially compared to recent popular characters like Boba Fett and Ahsoka.
Who is Embo in Star Wars? The bounty hunter has only appeared in animation

Embo is a Kyuzo bounty hunter who debuted in Season 2 of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. He’s easily recognized by his distinctive, wide-brimmed metal hat, which he can also use to fight. He fights with a bowcaster, a type of rifle similar to the one used by Chewbacca. Dave Filoni provided the voice for Embo throughout the series, but it’s currently unknown if he’ll voice the character in any future films.
I’ve always found Embo fascinating – he’s definitely not a clear-cut good guy, but he usually ends up helping the heroes. I remember when he first showed up, he was with Anakin, Obi-Wan, and Ahsoka, working as a bounty hunter to protect this farmer from the pirate Hondo Ohnaka. It was a really cool introduction to his character!
He reappeared in Season 4 when Obi-Wan went undercover at a bounty hunter contest organized by Count Dooku. He also returned in Season 6, tasked with eliminating Padme Amidala and Rush Clovis.
Embo was a popular, though relatively small, character from The Clone Wars. Many fans didn’t anticipate seeing him in live action. However, given Dave Filoni’s significant involvement in creating The Mandalorian alongside Jon Favreau, it makes sense that he’s brought another one of his creations into this new series.
It’s currently unknown how significant a part Embo will play in The Mandalorian & Grogu movie, but initial reports indicated he might be one of the main villains.
