Alien: Earth Season 2 could be released sooner than you think

If you finished watching the season finale and are eager for more Alien: Earth, unfortunately, I don’t have great news right now. However, there’s a possibility of a positive update soon, so it might be worth waiting.

With Noah Hawley’s new series, *Alien: Romulus*, and *Predator: Badlands*, it’s a fantastic time to be an *Alien* and *Predator* fan. After just eight episodes, the show is considered one of the best *Alien* films and a top show of 2025.

It’s understandable to worry about the show’s longevity. The current streaming landscape is tough on new series, as we’ve already seen with cancellations like Goosebumps on Disney+ and at least seven projects on Netflix, including The Waterfront.

Good news! It seems very likely that Alien: Earth will be back for a second season, and it might not be too far off. Be aware that the following information contains spoilers.

Is Alien: Earth Season 2 happening?

While FX hasn’t officially confirmed a second season of Alien: Earth, the show’s creator, Noah Hawley, knows where he wants the story to go, and FX executives are hoping it will be renewed.

Noah Hawley told Variety that the first season was designed to prove the show’s potential. If it’s successful, the second season will lay the groundwork for many more – potentially seasons three, four, and five.

The show is planned as a continuing series, though we haven’t decided how many seasons it will have yet. I strongly believe that a good ending is essential to a story, and I already have a clear idea of how the series will ultimately conclude.

FX head John Landgraf hinted that they’re very optimistic about the ‘Alien: Earth’ series. If it’s renewed for future seasons, they’ve asked the creator to prioritize writing scripts for at least two full seasons of ‘Alien: Earth’ before starting work on a potential sixth season of ‘Fargo’.

Is there an Alien: Earth Season 2 release date?

We don’t know exactly when Season 2 of Alien: Earth will be released. However, if the show gets renewed, it might come out in 2027.

It’s important to note this is just a guess, but it comes from a statement made by Hawley. He questioned how quickly the process could be improved, saying, “How can we make things faster so people aren’t waiting three, four, or even five years for more?” as he shared on the Evolution of Horror podcast.

It’s become a frequent complaint that popular TV shows are taking a long time to return with new seasons. For example, it took three years to make a second season of Severance. House of the Dragon’s second season was shortened to just eight episodes, and the next season won’t arrive for another two years. Similarly, fans have to wait over three years between seasons four and five of Stranger Things.

Since Hawley has mentioned wanting to quickly move forward with a new season, it likely won’t take more than two years to create, putting a release sometime in 2027 as the most reasonable guess.

There was also a minor issue with filming the first season in Bangkok. Noah Hawley, the creator, explained it was difficult due to concerns about the crew’s health and his own ability to be fully involved.

He shared with Variety that he’s looking for the best way to keep the show in production, so hopefully they can find a solution quickly.

What will happen in Alien: Earth Season 2?

We don’t yet know exactly what will happen in Season 2 of Alien: Earth, but it’s likely the story will pick up right after the first season’s ending. That means Wendy and the hybrid creatures will probably be in charge of Boy Kavalier’s island.

By the end of the eighth episode, Wendy had completely taken charge of the base and almost everyone in it. Kavalier, Kirsh, Morrow, Dame Sylvia, and Atom Eins-who was revealed to be an artificial being-are all imprisoned and being guarded by Wendy’s trusted Xenomorph.

But the team is facing serious trouble. Yutani is on their way to the base, and a strange insect has taken over Arthur’s body. To make matters worse, the dangerous plant creature is still roaming free.

Hawley explained that he has a clear idea of the story’s overall message and where it’s headed, even if he doesn’t know exactly how long it will take to reach that conclusion. He has a good sense of what a successful outcome would look like.

Considering the new film, Alien: Earth, takes place two years before the first Alien movie, the main question is how much further into the franchise’s history will it explore events?

Noah Hawley explained to TopMob that the events of the first three films span roughly 100 years, but Sigourney Weaver’s character is only actively involved for about a year and a half. This leaves plenty of room for new stories and exploration.

The Alien films don’t really explain how human society works, which I think is a gap. If we revisit Earth in a new story, it would help establish a clear picture of how things were at the beginning of the franchise, giving context to everything that happens in the other movies.

I don’t have a definitive answer, and things aren’t set in stone. However, it’s definitely possible the show could eventually catch up to where the movie starts and even continue beyond that point.

I’m wondering if we could explore what happened as a result of that phone call – what message was sent to Ian Holm and the ship, and how it led to where we are now. While we might not *actually* show that, that’s definitely the key time and place where the story unfolds.
