Pirates of the Caribbean 6 Faces Delays Due to a Highly Anticipated Tom Cruise Sequel Movie

Producer Jerry Bruckheimer recently shared an update on the progress of Pirates of the Caribbean 6 and explained how another Tom Cruise sequel might push back its release. Bruckheimer has been a prominent Hollywood producer for over four decades, known for blockbuster films like Top Gun, the Pirates of the Caribbean series, Bad Boys, and National Treasure. Although he’s 82, he remains active and is currently working on sequels for several of his most popular franchises.

Among Jerry Bruckheimer’s upcoming projects are Top Gun 3 and Pirates of the Caribbean 6. While there’s been a lot of talk about a sixth Pirates film for quite some time, it’s not happening immediately. Bruckheimer recently told Collider that both Pirates 6 and Top Gun 3 are in development, and he described the situation as a close competition between the two to see which gets made first.

The producer said ‘Top Gun’ is currently slightly in the lead, but that’s all. It seems the main obstacle to making another ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ movie right now is the success of the new ‘Top Gun’ film.

It’s a very close competition between the two films, and we’ll have to wait and see who wins. Currently, Top Gun is slightly in the lead, but the difference is minimal. We anticipate receiving the script soon.

Jerry Bruckheimer recently mentioned a new Pirates of the Caribbean film, following news that Disney’s leadership, under Josh D’Amaro, is prioritizing another installment. There’s even been talk that the movie might focus on the son of Captain Jack Sparrow, played by Johnny Depp.

Disney has been discussing a sixth Pirates of the Caribbean movie for several years. In 2022, Margot Robbie, known for her role in Barbie, was considered to star in and potentially lead a new direction for the series, but that idea didn’t move forward. The current plan for the film reportedly includes some ideas from Robbie’s proposed version, but it won’t be the same movie that was previously discussed.

The most recent Pirates of the Caribbean film, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, came out in 2017. The Pirates movies are based on the popular Disney Parks ride and the franchise originally began with producer Jerry Bruckheimer’s first film in 2003.

When Will Pirates of the Caribbean 6 Actually Happen?

After a long time of speculation and attempts that didn’t pan out, it looks like Pirates of the Caribbean 6 might finally be happening. Recent reports suggest a writer, Krysty Wilson-Cairns (known for her work on 1917), has been brought on to write the screenplay, and producer Jerry Bruckheimer is now discussing the project publicly.

The new Beverly Hills Cop movie is ready to go, but it’s on hold until production begins on Top Gun 3. Jerry Bruckheimer says the Top Gun 3 script should be finished soon, which means they could start filming the new Beverly Hills Cop movie by the end of the year or early 2027, assuming everything stays on schedule.

If that is the case, then a release by 2029 does not sound impossible for the skybound action epic.

If Top Gun 3 starts filming by the end of 2027, Pirates 6 could potentially follow in 2028, aiming for a release around 2029 or 2030.

Fortunately, while fans wait for more Pirates of the Caribbean, Disney has a new adventure film in the works. It will feature the classic villain from Beauty and the Beast and was announced last year.
