A surprising turn of events on the show ‘Industry’ led to a major character’s exit, significantly altering the direction of the series. Here’s what actors Myha’la and Ken Leung shared about the dramatic moments in Season 4, Episode 6.
Starting as a relatively small production on HBO and the BBC, the show Industry has become increasingly popular and well-regarded over its three seasons. The fourth season, currently being broadcast, is also receiving positive reviews, even though some viewers focused on the financial aspects haven’t quite ‘gotten’ it.
Throughout the series, the difficult relationship between Harper Stern and Eric Tao has been a major focus. Recently, they’ve transitioned into uneasy business partners through their investment fund, SternTao.
The newest episode, called ‘Dear Henry,’ shows the company continuing to succeed, thanks to Harper’s strong speech against Tender at a business conference and Eric’s critical comments about Tender on CNN. However, their fragile partnership begins to crumble when Eric receives a strange message. Warning: Spoilers follow…
Why Eric goes through a lawyer during Industry S4E6

In Season 6, Episode 4, Eric is devastated when he receives secretly recorded footage of him with a sex worker, and learns she was underage. This causes him to abruptly end his business partnership with Sten, handling it solely through lawyers and refusing to explain his decision to her.
Man, that scene really got to me. I totally sympathized with both Eric and Harper. I get why Eric couldn’t just spill the beans to Harper, it made sense. But Harper being left in the dark and dealing with all that trauma… that was rough. It just felt inevitable though, you know? It’s HBO and this is the kind of stuff they do in the show, so I kind of expected it to end like that.
Ken Leung feels Eric’s actions are motivated by a desire to protect Harper and her future. He explained to Deadline that Eric is essentially safeguarding Harper’s ‘baby’ – meaning her potential and everything she’s building – and believes he’s compromised that future with his own actions. Therefore, he feels he needs to step away.
Initially, I believe it’s a way for him to protect himself and keep something private. But ultimately, it’s his way of being generous to her. He uses a lawyer to handle the details, because he doesn’t want to deal with the effort himself – that’s just typical of him.
Myha’la on why Harper wants him to feel pain

The situation is incredibly sad and uncomfortable. Myha’la explained to Deadline that he’s completely shut down, refusing to even acknowledge her or explain what’s wrong. Despite this, she’s desperately trying to get him to open up, repeatedly offering him a safe space to talk about whatever happened.
We developed a dynamic where she became emotionally dependent on him, and now she feels trapped and resentful. She believes he led her into this situation, created the dependency, and is now refusing to follow through on what she perceives as his initial actions, leaving her feeling betrayed and angry.
It feels like he’s holding back, almost like he’s afraid to share everything. It’s frustrating because this shouldn’t be about her, and it doesn’t seem fair that he’s limiting himself.
She described Harper as deeply angry and heartbroken, feeling completely isolated. She’s suffering immensely and wants him to experience the same pain.
Ken Leung on what’s next for Eric Tao

So, the episode just ended with Eric walking off into… nowhere, really. It’s kinda weird, actually – he’s just strolling right down the middle of a street with traffic! According to what the director, Leung, told THR, that’s all we’re supposed to get from it – he’s just taking a pretty reckless walk.
There’s a rebellious energy to his walk – almost like he’s challenging anyone who tries to bother him. He clearly knows where he’s going and has a determined stride, but the show doesn’t reveal his destination or inner thoughts.
According to Leung, he doesn’t feel it’s his place to reveal where the character is headed, which he shared with Deadline. He jokingly admitted this might sound strange.
You know, the way my character walks off at the end… it’s like I’m handing the story over to you, the player. It’s no longer just my interpretation. I’ve done my part, but what happens next, what it means, is up to both of us – me as the actor, and you as the one watching. We finish the story together.
I can’t really comment on the reasons why. What matters is that he’s leaving, and that’s what people will remember. The fact that he’s walking away is the most important part of this.
