Logan Paul smashes world record by selling Pokemon card for $16.4 million

Logan Paul’s highly-graded Pikachu Illustrator card has set a new world record after he sold it to a new collector who is beginning to build a collection of rare trading cards.

In 2021, Logan Paul bought a highly-graded Pikachu Illustrator card for $5.275 million, exchanging a different, slightly less valuable Pikachu card he already owned, plus $4 million in cash. Since then, he’s publicly displayed the card several times, famously even wearing it during his entrance at the WrestleMania 38 wrestling event in 2022.

Logan Paul, the popular YouTuber, decided to sell his prized Pokémon card – often called the ‘holy grail’ of collecting – at the start of 2026. He received a $2.5 million advance from Goldin Auctions for the card, and used the money to help pay for his wedding and other significant purchases.

The Pikachu card auction concluded on February 15th after receiving bids over $12 million, ultimately selling for a record-breaking $16.4 million.

What was the previous record?

This sale established a new world record not only for the priciest Pokémon card ever auctioned, but also for the most expensive trading card of any kind sold at auction.

Before this new record, the most expensive trading card ever sold was a unique Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant autographed card featuring both of their logos. It sold for $12.932 million, but its condition was graded a 6 out of 10.

The highly sought-after Pikachu Illustrator card, graded a perfect 10 by PSA, was purchased by venture capitalist A.J. Scaramucci, who announced it’s the first piece in a collection he’s calling a “treasure hunt.”

Scaramucci told Logan and Ken Goldin that he plans to acquire both a T-Rex dinosaur fossil and the Declaration of Independence, hinting that these are just the first of many ambitious purchases.

After all fees were paid, Logan made over $8 million from the sale, which he described as an incredible result.

The livestream featured lucky collectors opening packs and discovering rare, first-edition Pokémon cards worth approximately $40,000.

Logan is facing criticism for selling portions of his collectible card through Liquid Marketplace.
