Despite a few setbacks, production for The Batman Part II is moving forward at DC Studios. With the script by Matt Reeves now complete, the team is concentrating on casting actors for the sequel.
Considering Matt Reeves’ previous work, it’s not surprising he’s attracted some major stars. Sebastian Stan and Scarlett Johansson, both known for their roles in Marvel films, have joined his project, likely drawn to its more sophisticated take on the superhero genre.
Despite DC’s efforts to stay quiet, rumors are circulating that Brendan Fraser and Rebecca Hall will portray Harvey Dent and his wife, Glinda, in The Batman Part II, scheduled for release on October 1, 2027. Harvey Dent is the Gotham district attorney who famously becomes the villain Two-Face, and Glinda, a character known from the Batman: The Long Halloween comic, is also depicted as having a dark side.
According to reports, a new villain named Christopher Dent appears in the script for The Batman Part II. His character is apparently so unsettling that it’s making some major Hollywood stars hesitant to join the project and work with director Matt Reeves and his team.
The Batman Part II’s Final Villain Is Causing Problems

Soon after Scarlett Johansson joined the DC project in December 2025, rumors started about Brad Pitt potentially joining the cast. Pitt eventually decided against the role, and when the reason became clear after a few weeks, it completely shifted how people understood the situation. He wasn’t being considered for the part of Harvey, but instead was in discussions to play Christopher, the villain’s father.
Jeff Sneider reports that Stellan Skarsgård, currently considered the frontrunner for the 2026 Best Supporting Actor Oscar, has decided not to take on the role of Christopher. While his busy schedule might be the reason, there could be other factors at play.
The story depicts Christopher as a father who mistreated his son, Harvey, deeply impacting the boy’s outlook on life. Even after Harvey became a successful lawyer, he intentionally kept his father out of his life, anticipating only negativity from him.
Christopher isn’t a complex character because his purpose wasn’t to be complex. He existed to show us what led Harvey down a dark road and explain the reasons behind his choices.
Reeves likely envisions a complex version of the character, and that’s why he’s considering a well-known actor for the part. However, with so many characters and plotlines to cover in The Batman Part II, whoever plays Christopher won’t have much screen time to showcase their talent. The filmmakers are hoping to find someone who can quickly embody the role and convincingly portray a troubled state, even if it’s just for a brief period.
