A new fan-made artwork features Michael Fassbender as Magneto, envisioning his introduction to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While Marvel hasn’t confirmed Fassbender’s involvement in the next Avengers film, several actors who previously played X-Men characters at Fox are expected to return in the upcoming movie.
Michael Fassbender has appeared in a number of popular films, including David Fincher’s The Killer, Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds, and Danny Boyle’s Steve Jobs. He’s also widely recognized by Marvel fans for playing Magneto in the younger timeline of the X-Men movies produced by Fox, with his last role as the character being in 2019’s Dark Phoenix before the X-Men franchise moved to Marvel Studios.
Artist @filipe_sca created images showing what Michael Fassbender’s Magneto might look like if he appeared in future Marvel films, like ‘Avengers: Doomsday’.
Fan art depicts Michael Fassbender as Magneto in a streamlined purple suit featuring a white “M” on the chest, along with purple gloves and a flowing grey and purple cape. The artwork gives Magneto longer white hair – a style Fassbender hasn’t previously portrayed. The design draws inspiration from Magneto’s iconic comic book appearance and his look in season one of X-Men ’97.
Will Michael Fassbender’s Magneto Appear In Avengers: Doomsday?
I’ve seen some amazing fan art of Michael Fassbender as Magneto, and honestly, he could totally nail a fresh take on the character if Marvel brought him in! But sadly, it’s starting to look like his return as Magneto in the next Avengers movie, which some are calling ‘Doomsday,’ probably won’t happen. It seems Marvel has a different vision for how they want to introduce the mutants, and that just doesn’t seem to include Fassbender’s version of the character.
So far, none of the actors who played the X-Men in Fox’s earlier movies have been confirmed for the cast of Avengers: Doomsday. All the X-Men announced so far are from the original film series, including James Marsden (Cyclops), Patrick Stewart (Professor X), and, significantly, Ian McKellen as Magneto. A version of Magneto, played by McKellen, will be in the movie – it’s not the version portrayed by Michael Fassbender.
How Michael Fassbender Could Still Play Magneto In The MCU After Avengers: Doomsday
I’m really hoping Marvel has a clever trick up their sleeve, and we might see this actor pop up unexpectedly during the movie – maybe even just a quick cameo! But honestly, I think he’s more likely to return as Magneto in Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027. It’s great that Doomsday is bringing back so many of the original X-Men cast from the Fox movies, but I have a feeling Marvel is holding out on him and some of the younger actors to really make an impact in the next big Avengers film, the one that continues the Multiverse Saga.
Another possibility exists. As of today, Michael Fassbender is 48 years old, making him an ideal choice to play Magneto in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s upcoming X-Men films. With the X-Men being rebooted after Avengers: Secret Wars, new fan-created artwork demonstrates how compelling a reimagining of Fassbender’s Magneto could be, potentially extending into future films like Avengers: Doomsday and beyond.
