Seismic Squirrel has revealed that its story-driven RPG, Aether & Iron, will be available on PC starting March 31th. A new trailer was also released to announce the launch date.
Aether & Iron will launch with full support for the Steam Deck. The game will feature full English voice acting, along with subtitles and text in English, Spanish (both Spain and Latin America), French, German, Polish, Russian, Brazilian Portuguese, and Simplified Chinese. Seismic Squirrel has announced that their story-focused RPG, Aether & Iron, will be released on PC through Steam on March 31, 2026.
The game is set in a reimagined 1930s New York City, now built as a towering vertical metropolis thanks to the discovery of “aether,” a substance enabling anti-gravity technology. Players will experience the story through Gia, a smuggler who must navigate criminal organizations, political intrigue, and shifting alliances. Your choices as a player will significantly impact Gia’s journey, her relationships, and ultimately, the fate of the city. Aether & Iron features full voice acting and a talented writing team with experience on games like Mass Effect, Far Cry, and Sovereign Syndicate. The original soundtrack is composed by Christopher Tin and Alex Williamson, both award-winning composers known for their work on the Civilization series.
According to Tyler Whitney, Narrative Lead at Seismic Squirrel, Aether & Iron focuses on making your own choices when you feel trapped. The game puts you in situations where you’ll need to use your wits, take chances, and make difficult decisions that impact both the main character, Gia, and the future of New York City. The team has been working on the game and its characters for years and is thrilled to release it in March.
The game combines a story-rich role-playing experience with strategic, turn-based combat using customizable vehicles powered by aether. Players build a fleet and gather a team of diverse companions, each with their own skills and backstories that affect battles and the story’s direction.
A routine smuggling operation quickly becomes a city-wide conspiracy, forcing players to develop their Hustle, Smarts, and Brass – key abilities that impact combat, conversations, and critical choices. Every decision carries risk, and even with careful planning, a single roll of the dice can determine the outcome. Ultimately, the player’s choices will decide the fate of New York City and whether its people will find a path to a better future or remain stuck in a cycle of corruption and violence.
