Exodus, the space RPG from Archetype Entertainment and Wizards of the Coast, showed off new gameplay at The Game Awards after its initial reveal there last year.
The trailer shows Jun’s journey from a struggling survivor, collecting scrap to get by, to the legendary “Child of Orion.” It also offers a sneak peek at the third-person shooting action in Exodus, and introduces some of the massive enemies Jun will battle during the game.
The video suggests Jun has the power to use advanced, otherworldly technology, and that finding the perfect ship and team will be key. We get a quick glimpse of some of Jun’s potential crew, including Salt, who developers describe as an octopus that pilots a giant stealth mech.
We’re briefly introduced to C.C. Orlev, a character voiced by Matthew McConaughey, who helps guide Jun on his journey. According to Archetype VP and general manager Chad Robertson, Orlev acts as both a mentor to Jun and a representative of his home world. Robertson also noted that Orlev’s past is somewhat enigmatic, and Jun soon discovers how important C.C. will be to the unfolding story.
Exodus is being created by Archetype Entertainment, a studio in Austin, Texas, formed by former developers from BioWare. Notably, Drew Karpyshyn, a senior writer on Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and lead writer for the first two Mass Effect games, is part of the team.
Exodus is set to launch in “early 2027” for consoles and PC.
