In an interview with Automaton Media, Kaiju No. 8 The Game director Shinya Fujita shared his thoughts on the game’s launch, saying he was pleased with the strong start. He acknowledged that releasing the game alongside the anime was difficult, but thanks to teamwork, it was well-received.

For the past ten years, the mobile game market has been incredibly competitive, making it very hard to get noticed, let alone gain players, according to Fujita. He believes their game succeeded because of close teamwork with the creators of the original manga and anime.

Fujita explained how Kaiju No. 8 The Game has done well, even though it had a rocky start and received mostly average reviews. He said a key reason was releasing the game while the anime was popular, capitalizing on the excitement around the series.

Fujita explained that because the original game was popular with everyone, they made sure the new version was easy for anyone to pick up and play. They did this by adjusting how players unlock characters and how challenging the quests are. Fujita believes these changes were key to the game’s successful launch, attracting millions of players around the world.

Inspired by the popular manga by Naoya Matsumoto, Kaiju No. 8 The Game was created by Akatsuki Games Inc. and launched in September 2025. The game lets players become characters from the Kaiju No. 8 anime and fight dangerous monsters.

Honestly, the game didn’t get the best reception at launch – critics and players were pretty lukewarm about it. But Akatsuki Games has been amazing with consistent updates! They’re really keeping things fresh and giving us plenty of new content, so it doesn’t feel like you hit a wall and have to stop playing.

As a huge fan, I’m so excited for the Kaiju No. 8 anime to finally adapt the last part of the story! The manga finished up last year after 16 volumes, and they announced the adaptation back in December at Jump Festa 2026. We’ve already gotten two seasons of the anime, plus a bunch of specials and the recent movie, Kaiju No. 8: Mission Recon – which was awesome, by the way, and everyone loved it just like the series itself!
