Nioh 3 includes a collectible map that helps players find most items without needing online guides. However, one chest isn’t visible on the map because the map only shows what’s on the surface, not what’s hidden below.
We’re discussing the golden treasure chest icon shown on the Heian period map of Hachijo. You might be confused because there’s no actual chest or Spirit Vein you can reach at that location. Also, this chest isn’t connected to the main Crucible area. If you’re curious about how to find this spot, this guide will help you.

How to reach this Golden Treasure Chest
To get there, you’ll first need to reach the Enemy Base at Anneibo Temple, which is to the east. You can’t go directly from the center area at first, so you’ll have to go through the dirty, flooded area to the south.
Once you arrive at the location, be sure to clear out the Enemy Base. Doing so will unlock the temple’s Shrine, as access to that Shrine is directly tied to clearing the base.

Once you’ve prayed at the Shrine, turn left and walk towards the wooden platform over the pond. From there, jump onto the roofs to get to the top of the platform across from where you started.
When you get here, you can push the log aside to make a quicker path between the Shrine and the hidden area. From there, you can explore the underground zone, which contains the item shown by the golden treasure chest symbol.

The following section reveals details about the Golden Chest area, so be warned – it contains major spoilers! If you’re only interested in finding the route and want to avoid spoilers for the rest of the game, you should stop reading now. As a heads-up, we’ve also included information about the Amrita spirit found on the map, including the Ninja’s Locks, before the main spoilers begin.

Details on the Golden Treasure Chest – Spoiler Warning

The chests marked as ‘golden treasure chests’ aren’t actually chests – they all lead to a secret boss called the Demon of Envy. If you’re struggling with this boss, we’ve documented the items it drops at Level 90.
If you defeat the Demon of Envy, you’ll unlock a special cutscene and receive a powerful reward from the golden chest: a Fire-element Transformed Art called Arc of Chaos, designed for the Switchglaive weapon.
Just so you know, the Spirit Vein symbol lets you quickly return to the main world from a boss fight using Kurama Tengu’s ability, skipping the need to use a shrine for fast travel.
