Chris Hemsworth worried Marvel fans will stop believing him as Thor for heartbreaking reason

Chris Hemsworth has expressed worry that Marvel audiences might find it hard to accept him in the role of Thor in upcoming films, including a potential ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ movie.

Chris Hemsworth began his acting career on the Australian soap opera Home and Away before achieving international fame in Hollywood. He became widely known for playing Thor in the 2011 Marvel film, alongside stars like Anthony Hopkins, Natalie Portman, and Tom Hiddleston. Since then, he’s appeared in several critically acclaimed movies, including Rush, Extraction, and Bad Times at the El Royale.

Chris Hemsworth recently chatted with TopMob for their Crime 101 series, sharing his pick for the next James Bond. However, he’s best known for playing Thor, a role he’s taken on in eight films (excluding brief appearances and TV shows).

Chris Hemsworth will return as his Marvel hero in both Avengers: Doomsday and the planned Avengers: Secret Wars, assuming Doctor Doom’s actions don’t change the universe too much. However, he’s a little worried about how audiences will react to him, especially after recently sharing personal details in a different project.

Chris Hemsworth is concerned about being so open about potentially having Alzheimer’s

In 2022, Chris Hemsworth starred in a National Geographic documentary called Limitless, where he put his body through extreme physical challenges. During filming, he learned he carries the APOE4 gene, which increases his risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease later in life.

I really admire how open this actor has been about his health, but he recently shared something that hit me hard. He’s actually worried about whether people will still buy him as Thor, as the action hero, if they know how much this is affecting him. He was quoted in the Guardian saying he questioned if he’d overshared, and wondered if it would ruin people’s belief in the character or in him as an action star. It’s tough to hear him admit he’s worried about letting us see his vulnerabilities like that.

Chris Hemsworth also starred in a National Geographic docuseries called Road to Remember, which followed a trip he took with his father, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. He admits he’s careful about how people see him, but he’s noticed more and more people are sharing their own experiences with Alzheimer’s with him.

It’s common for people to avoid acknowledging difficult situations, making it isolating when you’re going through a tough time. They might talk about everyday things like sports or the weather, but rarely do they ask how you’re really doing, or if you’re feeling scared or worried.

Rather than being forced to slow down due to health issues, Hemsworth has intentionally scaled back his work to prioritize spending time with his family.

I’ve been doing a lot of thinking lately, and honestly, I’ve slowed down a lot. I used to be all about pushing forward, but I’m much more aware now of how precious and delicate life is. It really hit me that my dad won’t be around forever, and it’s strange seeing my kids grow up. Just a few years ago, they were constantly squabbling over who got to sleep in our bed, but those days are pretty much gone now. It makes you appreciate things differently.
