As a big fan of the Dexter universe, I was excited to hear that David Zayas is joining a new crime series! He’s best known to me as Detective Angel Batista – I loved his work throughout all eight seasons of the original Dexter, which I watched from 2006 to 2013. And of course, he was fantastic in both Dexter: New Blood and now, the upcoming Dexter: Resurrection in 2025. It’s great to see him continuing to be part of this world after that huge twist!
The first season of Dexter: Resurrection ended with a shocking twist: Angel Batista was killed by Leon Prater (played by Peter Dinklage), a wealthy investor who leads a hidden group of serial killers. Although Dexter: Resurrection has been renewed for a second season, it appears Batista will not be back.
David Zayas, known for his role in Dexter: Resurrection, is joining Law & Order: SVU season 27. He’s replacing Timothy Busfield in an episode originally scheduled to air on January 15th. NBC had previously removed the episode, titled “Corrosive,” from the schedule, which featured Busfield as a judge, according to Deadline.
So, I just heard some pretty shocking news about one of my favorite shows. Apparently, an actor named Busfield was facing some really serious allegations – two counts of criminal sexual contact with a minor and child abuse. Because of this, they had to quickly recast the judge role – the actor Zayas was originally playing it – and completely reshoot the episode. Thankfully, they’ve managed to get everything sorted, and it’s now set to air on February 26th. It’s definitely a tough situation, but I’m glad they handled it and we’ll still get to see the episode.
The crime drama Law & Order: SVU frequently deals with sex crimes, and the episode “Corrosive” focuses on abuse. The story begins when a threat is made against a highly-regarded judge, prompting the SVU team to investigate. Their investigation leads them through a complex series of clues, ultimately connected to an anonymous video sent in as a tip.
The show delves into challenging subjects like trauma and recovery, particularly through Detective Amanda Rollins’ (Kelli Giddish) work with a survivor of past abuse as they face their experiences.

John Busfield is facing charges related to claims of misconduct with two young actors while working as a director and executive producer on the Fox show The Cleaning Lady in New Mexico. He could receive a prison sentence of at least three years if found guilty.
Police first learned about the issue in late 2024 when a doctor at the University of New Mexico Hospital reported suspected sexual abuse involving two young brothers, who were born in 2014 and working as child actors. The doctor contacted the Albuquerque Police Department with the report.
Following an anonymous complaint in early 2025 regarding an incident on the set of The Cleaning Lady in December 2024, Warner Bros. Television conducted an internal review. The review found no wrongdoing by Busfield, but the studio is still working with law enforcement on the matter.
I was really excited to see David Zayas pop up in The Running Man (2025) – he’s fantastic! Most of you probably know him as the actor who took over for Dexter on Law & Order: SVU, but he’s been consistently working for years. It’s cool to see him and his wife, Liza Colón-Zayas (who plays Tina on The Bear!), both doing so well. He’s also been in Blue Bloods and even way back on Oz, so he’s a familiar face for a lot of us TV watchers.
