Adapting a cheesy 1980s cartoon, originally designed to promote toys, into a compelling modern movie for longtime fans is a tough challenge. Director Travis Knight’s approach? Embrace the cartoon’s playful, over-the-top nature.
Knight discussed the show with Empire and readily admitted it has a certain silliness. However, he believes this is actually one of the things that makes Masters of the Universe so good.
Knight admits the project has a playful, even ridiculous side, and they’re fully leaning into that.
