New X-Men Ominubs Includes Over 1,000 Pages Of Classic ’90s Comics

Many fans consider the early 1990s to be the golden age of X-Men comics, a time when the series was incredibly popular and became Marvel’s biggest hit. A new collection, X-Men: Blue and Gold – Mutant Genesis, lets readers experience that era with a huge, 1,000+ page hardcover omnibus. It features classic stories from the 1980s and 90s and will be available for $139.50 on September 30th.

Although X-Men comics didn’t start as huge hits, they became popular again in the 1970s and continued to grow in the 1980s, eventually becoming Marvel Comics’ most successful title. In 1990 and 1991, the comics broke sales records, a time when fans were especially drawn to the work of specific artists and writers. X-Men remained popular throughout the 1990s, but a difficult period for Marvel – including bankruptcy, creators leaving to start their own company, and a downturn in the comic book market – unfortunately led to a decline in sales after a few years.

The cartoon series became so popular, it was even turned into a hit manga in Japan. Though originally published decades ago and long unavailable, Viz Media and Marvel recently released remastered editions. You can now get the first volume for $17.30 (originally $25) and the second for $15.30 (originally $30). Together, these volumes offer over 1,000 pages of X-Men manga, adapting the entire first season of the animated show, for just $32.
