The highly anticipated game The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered is heading to the Nintendo Switch 2! Announced as the closing surprise during the February 5th Nintendo Direct, it will be available alongside other Bethesda titles like Fallout 4 and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle on Nintendo’s newest console.
The remastered version of Oblivion is coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026, though a specific release date hasn’t been announced. While a release for other platforms in 2025 was widely expected due to leaks, this Switch 2 version was a surprise reveal. Oblivion Remastered is an open-world fantasy role-playing game set in the Tamriel Empire during a dangerous event called the Oblivion Crisis, where portals to otherworldly planes are appearing across the land of Cyrodiil.
Oblivion Remastered Releases On Nintendo Switch 2 In 2026
As a huge fan of Oblivion, I’m really excited about the Remastered version! Basically, they’ve rebuilt the whole game visually using Unreal Engine 5 – it looks amazing! But don’t worry, it still feels like the Oblivion we all know and love, with the same gameplay and physics. They’ve also made a few smart changes, like tweaking the stamina system and finally fixing some of those old leveling problems that have bothered us for years. It’s a fantastic update!
For the first time ever, players will be able to experience Oblivion on a Nintendo console. Although Skyrim arrived on the original Switch in 2017, Oblivion never gained quite the same level of popularity, even though many fondly remember it. While the planned 2026 release is promising, Oblivion Remastered might not be available on the Switch 2 for some time – the absence of a specific release date suggests the game is still under heavy development and could launch later in the year.
Oblivion Remastered May Struggle With Performance On Switch 2
As a big fan, I’m a little worried about how Oblivion Remastered will run on the Switch 2. It’s already had some performance problems on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, particularly when you’re out exploring the world. They’ve released updates to fix things, but it still has trouble keeping the game running smoothly without those annoying little stutters. And honestly, knowing the Switch 2 is less powerful than those other consoles, it doesn’t fill me with confidence.
Despite a generally slow Nintendo Direct, the announcement of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered for the Switch 2 was a pleasant surprise. The trailer footage looks remarkably good – character models and environments appear much sharper than in many other Switch ports. It’s always great to see another Elder Scrolls game available for Nintendo fans, and Oblivion offers helpful background information for Skyrim players.
