Supergirl trailer is premiering during Puppy Bowl over Super Bowl for one obvious reason

Excitement for the upcoming Supergirl movie is growing, and a new trailer reportedly dropping during this weekend’s Puppy Bowl could give us a good idea of the film’s plot.

Supergirl is the second movie in James Gunn’s new DC Universe, coming after his successful Superman film.

Gunn oversaw production, while Craig Gillespie directed the film based on a screenplay by Ana Nogueira. The story is adapted from the comic book series, Woman of Tomorrow.

If the new trailer appears during the Puppy Bowl instead of the Super Bowl, it’s likely a particular plot point will continue from a previous story. Be warned: spoilers may follow…

Krypto might be in trouble if Supergirl Puppy Bowl rumor proves true

It’s still unknown how much of the story from Tom King’s ‘World of Tomorrow’ will appear in the new Supergirl series. However, initial previews show they’re definitely using some key parts, like the villain Krem of the Yellow Hills (though his appearance is different), and a young woman named Ruthye Marye Knoll who will be working with Kara to track him down.

James Gunn has stated the movie won’t be a strict adaptation of the source material. He told Variety it will be a space fantasy – similar in tone to Guardians of the Galaxy – inspired by the Tom King book, but won’t follow the story exactly. It will retain the core themes and ideas, however.

Just this week, the same source said DC Studios plans to reveal a first look at Supergirl during the Puppy Bowl on Animal Planet. It’s an unusual move, considering the Super Bowl attracts a much larger audience.

I read that Variety thinks it’s all about how Animal Planet and Warner Bros. Discovery work together. Basically, since they’re both owned by the same company, they can really boost each other up!

The Bowl selection also fits with Supergirl’s core themes, likely reflecting Kara Zor-El’s strong bond with her dog. While the main storyline focuses on Ruthye’s pursuit of Krem for her father’s murder, Kara has her own motivations as well.

Okay, so things got really intense. This guy, Krem, attacked Supergirl and, seriously, he killed her dog, Krypto! It’s not about getting revenge though, at least not directly. Supergirl’s actually trying to get a sample of the poison Krem used, hoping she can find a way to save Krypto. It’s a race against time to heal her best buddy!

As a Supergirl fan, I was so excited to see the super-powered dog in the first trailer! It was a quick glimpse, and there was one moment where he looked like he might be hurt – or maybe just napping, honestly! – but other than that, there’s no real hint that his injury will be a big part of the story. It’s a little mysterious, and I’m curious to see if it’ll become important later.

If the Puppy Bowl is meant to kick off the story for Supergirl, it’s the ideal spot to reveal that connection and encourage dog lovers to buy tickets to see Krypto rescued.
