Lou Ferrigno, the 6’5″ former bodybuilder best known for playing the Incredible Hulk in the 1970s and ’80s TV series, is back in a new horror film called The Hermit. He plays a terrifying cannibal pig farmer. The movie follows a classic slasher formula: two teenagers, played by Malina Weissman and Anthony Turpel, go on a trip to the woods and quickly find themselves in a desperate fight for survival against a huge and dangerous killer.
Salvatore Sciafani directs The Hermit, which will be released by Uncork’d Entertainment this March. According to Bleeding Cool, Uncork’d President Keith Leopard praised Lou Ferrigno’s performance as something horror fans will find surprising. Leopard also described the film as a dark, action-packed, and highly entertaining genre piece, stating it’s the type of bold movie their audience enjoys.
‘The Hermit’ May Or May Not Be Set in Texas, There’s No Chainsaw, But There Could Definitely Be a Massacre
The trailer strongly resembles The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, featuring teens venturing into the countryside and being hunted by a large, cannibalistic man controlled by his mother. The villain in this film favors an axe over a chainsaw, and though he isn’t masked, the filmmakers often keep him hidden in shadows. Interestingly, a Texas Chainsaw Massacre TV series is currently being developed, making the timing of this film’s release quite convenient.
Lou Ferrigno’s latest film role was in the 2019 movie Ring Ring, a thriller with some horror aspects, but he’s best known for his work as the Incredible Hulk in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While Mark Ruffalo has played Bruce Banner – and hopes for his own Hulk movie – Lou Ferrigno provided the vocalizations for the Hulk’s transformations, a role he continued through 2017’s Thor: Ragnarok.
Before becoming known as the Incredible Hulk, Lou Ferrigno used his impressive size and muscular build in classic adventure films like Hercules and Sinbad of the Seven Seas. He briefly gained popularity as a similar figure to Arnold Schwarzenegger, though he wasn’t quite as well-known. Ferrigno’s imposing stature returns in The Hermit, where he plays a genuinely intimidating character.
