Anne Hathaway has starred in many successful films, with some of her most memorable roles coming early in her career, like in The Devil Wears Prada and The Princess Diaries. With plans to revisit both of these films, she’s recently reminded audiences why revisiting them is a fantastic idea.
The highly anticipated sequel will be released in theaters on May 1st, twenty years after the first movie came out. 20th Century Studios recently released the official trailer, and it’s already broken the studio’s record for most views.
20th Century Studios shared on X (formerly Twitter) that the trailer for their new film has been viewed a record-breaking 222 million times in just 24 hours. They celebrated the achievement by quoting a famous line from the original movie, adding, “Literally!”
The post included a picture from the new movie and a thank you message: “Thank you for making the Devil Wears Prada 2 trailer the most-watched trailer 20th Century Studios has ever had.”
Talk of a follow-up movie had been ongoing for years. This was especially true after Lauren Weisberger’s original novel gained a sequel in 2013, titled Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns. The actors who filmed the first movie really enjoyed working together and stayed friends, even appearing together on stage several times since then.
News surfaced in July 2024 that Walt Disney Studios was exploring a follow-up to the beloved film. Discussions began immediately, and the original stars – Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci – were all expected to return.
The trailer showed Anne Hathaway returning as Andy, now working as a Features Editor at the magazine where she once interned. Miranda remained her typically critical self, and Emily still couldn’t stand her, just like old times.
The sequel to The Devil Wears Prada sees Andy returning to work at Runway magazine. Miranda is facing challenges adapting to the changing world of media, and the magazine’s future is uncertain. A potential solution arises when Andy reconnects with Emily, a former assistant who now leads a successful luxury brand with the financial resources to save Runway.
Who Stars in The Devil Wears Prada 2?
Meryl Streep is bringing back her famous character, Miranda Priestly, from the movie ‘The Devil Wears Prada’. This time, instead of being an assistant, Anne Hathaway’s character, Andy, is a Features Editor at Runway magazine. Emily Blunt is also returning as Emily Charlton, but it appears she’s moved on from working at the magazine. Stanley Tucci will reprise his role as Nigel Kipling as well.
The upcoming sequel to The Devil Wears Prada will feature new characters, including Miranda Priestly’s husband, played by Kenneth Branagh, and Emily Charlton’s husband, played by Justin Theroux. The cast also includes Tracie Thoms, Tibor Feldman, Simone Ashley, Caleb Hearon, B.J. Novak, and even Lady Gaga and Donatella Versace, among others. David Frankel is back as director, working from a script by Aline Brosh McKenna, who wrote the original film.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 releases in theaters on May 1.
