Liam Neeson’s New R-Rated Sci-Fi Thriller Movie Debuts To Outstanding Rotten Tomatoes Score

Liam Neeson is trying his hand at science fiction in a new, action-packed movie geared towards adult audiences. He’ll be working alongside a star from the popular series Stranger Things and others. Recently, Neeson appeared in the latest The Naked Gun film, where he was praised for his funny portrayal of Frank Drebin Jr., the son of the original Frank Drebin. He’s now following that up with another comedic role.

Liam Neeson is starring in the upcoming sci-fi thriller Cold Storage, set to release in the US on February 13, 2026. The film centers around Travis Meacham (Joe Keery from Stranger Things) and Naomi Williams (Georgina Campbell from Krypton), who work at a storage facility built on a former military base. When a dangerous, mind-controlling fungus is unleashed, they turn to Robert Quinn (Liam Neeson), a retired expert in bioterrorism, for help.

The new movie Cold Storage has received very positive reviews, earning a 90% score on Rotten Tomatoes. However, since it hasn’t been released in the US yet, and only ten reviews are currently counted, that score is likely to change. This is another strong Rotten Tomatoes debut for Liam Neeson, following the 87% score achieved by The Naked Gun.

The 2025 comedy film The Naked Gun is proving popular with audiences, earning a 72% positive score. Critics are also responding well, with The Hollywood Reporter‘s David Rooney praising Liam Neeson’s performance as having a ‘dryly humorous gravitas.’ Rooney also highlighted the strong work of Joseph Keery and Campbell in their roles as the film’s unlikely heroes.

So far, the only negative review of Cold Storage comes from Argentinian critic Guillermo Courau of La Nación, who said the sci-fi comedy “was merely intended as entertainment, but it doesn’t even fully achieve that.” US audiences will find out if they agree in just ten days.

Although Liam Neeson is the most recognizable name in the movie, the two other leading actors are known for their roles in popular science fiction series. Joe Keery gained international fame playing Steve Harrington in all five seasons of the Netflix hit show Stranger Things. Originally, Steve was only meant to appear in the first season, but Keery’s charm made him a beloved character and fan favorite.

Georgina Campbell is known for her role in the popular Black Mirror episode, “Hang the DJ,” which has an 8.7 rating on IMDB. She also played Lyta Zod in the DC and Syfy series Krypton. Cold Storage promises to be a funny and surprising sci-fi comedy.
