Sagar Radia has finished his run as Rishi Ramdani in the HBO drama Industry. In the fourth episode of Season 4, Rishi, recently bereaved, reached a breaking point after providing drugs that led to Charlie Heaton’s character, Jim Dyker, overdosing. As police arrived, Rishi fled to the balcony, and according to Radia in an interview with The Wrap, this wasn’t just an escape attempt – his character was also contemplating suicide.
It felt like we were finally seeing the real Rishi, a side of him that had been hidden for a long time. It was fascinating to play a scene where all the usual distractions faded away, revealing a more vulnerable and instinctive character. He wasn’t focused on winning, but simply on getting through it – just trying to survive.
When he’s on the balcony, it seems like he’s both wanting to escape and considering ending his life. He probably wonders if it’s all worth it, and in a way, feels like he deserves whatever comes next. But ultimately, I think everyone has a basic instinct to survive – to get away from danger and live to see another day.
Although Rishi’s character didn’t die, his dramatic downfall has led to him being arrested – and he’s likely to remain in police custody for quite some time. In a recent interview, the actor explained that he, along with the creators of the show Industry, Mickey Down and Konrad Kay, collaborated on a fitting conclusion for his popular character. He admitted he would have even enjoyed portraying his character in prison.
While it would have been exciting for Rishi to continue, the band felt it was the right time to end things creatively. They wanted a memorable finale, and this felt like the perfect way to achieve it.
