Dorothy’s face may not actually be seen in Wicked: For Good.
Universal Pictures will release the movie *Wicked: For Good* in US theaters this November. The film is based on the popular 2003 stage musical by Stephen Schwartz and Winnie Holzman, and continues the story begun in the 2024 film *Wicked*. Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande will return as Elphaba and Glinda, respectively.
What do we know about Dorothy in Wicked: For Good?
Everyone knows Dorothy Gale, the iconic character played by Judy Garland in the 1939 film *The Wizard of Oz*, will be part of the upcoming movie *Wicked: For Good*. However, a recent article in Empire Magazine clarifies that she won’t be a fully developed character, but rather her impact will be felt throughout the story.
The article points out that Dorothy will mostly be shown from afar or with her back to the camera, implying we might not ever see her face clearly in the movie.
Erivo praised the decision, saying it was great because it allowed everyone to maintain their familiar version of Dorothy.
Grande, meanwhile, explained that Glinda has a “little bit of shadiness” towards Dorothy.
Grande explained that Glinda was busy and didn’t offer Dorothy a simple solution – suggesting she take the Emerald City train. Grande felt this was a bit suspicious and decided to play up Glinda’s subtle annoyance with Dorothy in her performance whenever Dorothy needed help.
Jon M. Chu directs the film *Wicked*, which stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande alongside Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero, Jeff Goldblum as the Wizard of Oz, Marissa Bode as Nessarose, Ethan Slater as Boq, Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible, Bowen Yang as Pfannee, Bronwyn James as ShenShen, and Sharon D. Clarke providing the voice for Dulcibear.
Wicked: For Good will be released on November 21, 2025.
