A man in Kazakhstan pretended to be a healer on TikTok, offering to cure people’s illnesses in exchange for money. Prosecutors say he convinced followers he had magical abilities.
The criminal stole over 5.5 million tenge from three people, and used the money to place bets with a bookmaker. This amount is equivalent to approximately £8,000 or $11,000.
TikTok ‘magical healer’ sent to prison for 2 years
The man admitted to the scheme in court, according to a statement from the Prosecutor’s Office on Telegram.
In addition to providing partial compensation to the three victims, the man received a prison sentence of two years and four months, which began immediately with no portion suspended.
The prosecutor’s office is advising people to be careful and avoid clicking on suspicious links or accepting questionable offers they see on social media. They ask that anyone who encounters these situations report them to the police right away.

This man in Moscow isn’t alone in seemingly promising rewards while actually taking people’s money.
A video from late January reappeared showing Pastor Todd Hall requesting a $10,000 donation, promising the donor would eventually become a multi-millionaire.
According to Hall, God told him He wants to greatly bless someone financially, but that person must first donate $10,000 within 90 seconds.
