A Pokemon pop-up shop is opening at the London Natural History Museum in early 2026, offering exclusive merchandise. However, fans may face competition from resellers looking to profit from limited-edition items – just like at previous Pokemon events. It’s likely this will happen again.
As a Pokémon fan, I’m super excited to hear about this event celebrating 30 years of the franchise! Apparently, the Natural History Museum is a perfect fit – their director, Adam Farrar, told Eurogamer they’re both huge fans of nature and how it changes and diversifies. They’re hoping this collaboration will get people, like me, even more interested in real-world creatures, both Pokémon *and* the ones we share the planet with. It sounds awesome!
The museum is taking steps to discourage ticket scalpers by requiring visitors to reserve free tickets online starting October 1st. A limited-time shop will be open from January 26th to March 22nd, selling items like clothing and accessories. The most popular item is expected to be a special Pikachu plush toy designed specifically for the museum.
For the first time, an official Pokémon shop is being held within a British museum. However, this isn’t the first time Pokémon has teamed up with a museum – last year, The Pokémon Company partnered with the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam. They offered a unique Pikachu Pokémon card featuring Pikachu in a hat inspired by Van Gogh’s self-portraits, along with Pokémon artwork and shirts. The card was very popular and quickly sold out both at the museum and online.
Visitors to the Van Gogh Museum reported that many adults were only interested in buying merchandise from the Pokémon collaboration, without even looking at the exhibit itself. Online, people reselling the items boasted about how much they’d acquired. This isn’t a new problem – in 2021, a similar situation happened with a Pokémon-themed McDonald’s Happy Meal promotion, where resellers quickly bought up all the collectible items.
