After a little over a year, the crime thriller Cross is back for a second season on . Based on the James Patterson novels, the show follows detective and forensic psychologist Alex Cross as he investigates a new case each season. The series is structured as a procedural, highlighting Cross’s skills in solving crimes and understanding criminal minds.
This is the fourth time the character has been portrayed on screen, following previous movies like Kiss the Girls and Along Came a Spider, as well as the film Alex Cross. Aldis Hodge will return to play the role, bringing his own style to the show. Here’s a sneak peek at what viewers can expect in Season 2.
When is Cross Season 2 Coming Out?
The hit show Cross returns for its second season on February 11, 2026, and will be available to stream only on Prime Video. Similar to the first season, Season 2 will consist of eight episodes. The first three episodes will premiere on February 11th, with new episodes released each week for the following five weeks, concluding on March 18, 2026.
Prime Video renewed the show Cross for a second season way back in April 2024, even before the first season premiered in November of that year. This early renewal showed the streaming service had high expectations for the show, and those expectations were met – the first season received a positive response from viewers.
The first season of the show received generally positive reviews, earning a 76% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and achieving “Certified Fresh” status. While critics liked it, viewers were slightly less enthusiastic, giving it a 64% audience score. Expectations are high for Season 2, as the story expands and explores the main character, Alex, and the people around him in more detail. The show’s creator, Ben Watkins, has always planned for a long-term narrative, but each season will focus on different cases, allowing for the development of supporting characters alongside Alex’s story.
Cross Season 2 Sees the Detective Face a Dangerous Killer
This season, Alex is tracking a relentless vigilante targeting wealthy and corrupt business leaders. This is a reversal from last season, where the billionaire was the one committing the crimes. Now, the killer is operating more like a moralistic vigilante, aiming to eliminate people similar to Ed Ramsey – individuals who exploit their money and influence to harm others.
The new trailer reveals Alex juggling family life, his job with John, and a new assignment: assisting the FBI with a case involving Lance Durand. Durand is a rich businessman publicly promoting technology that could solve world hunger, but someone is trying to kill him. Evidence, like a bag of severed fingers and a threatening message, suggests he’s in serious danger.
Images depict a nude woman with a prominent back tattoo in a bathroom filled with candles and religious items. In a separate scene, she’s shown defending herself with a knife. FBI agent Kayla Craig, a key character, states their search has shifted to focus on this woman, revealing her as the central figure in the investigation.
I was totally gripped by this sequence where Alex, using his amazing understanding of the criminal mind, really starts to connect the dots. He’s figuring out the ‘why’ behind the killings, spotting patterns in the killer’s behavior, and trying to predict their next move. Then he says it – “She’s killing everyone on that list,” and it hits you: this isn’t just a crime, it’s a serial killer, and the clock is ticking to stop her.
Okay, so from the trailer, it looks like things are really heating up. Everyone’s talking about huge risks, potentially ruining their careers, and even wondering if they’re on the right side of things. Plus, it starts with a car crash – seriously! Then it’s just non-stop action: guns, car chases, fights…it’s gonna be a wild ride, I can tell. And at the end, we hear Alex say, “I want justice.” It’s clear he’s still the same guy – a good man at heart who’s willing to bend the rules to do what’s right and take down the villains.
Cross Season 2 Will See New and Returning Faces
The entire main cast is back for another season of Cross, including Tyler Hodge as Alex Cross and Isaiah Mustafa as his partner and best friend, John Sampson. Samantha Walkes will also return as a friend, the head of a non-profit, and Alex’s former love interest, Elle, and Alona Tal reprises her role as Kayla.
Watkins has stated that this season will be challenging for Alex, who usually relies heavily on his friend for support. Watkins explained that while we’ve seen how well he supports others through difficult times, we haven’t yet seen how he would cope if he were the one facing the problem.
Johnny Ray Gill will be joining the cast as Bobby Trey Abellard, a troubled ex-police officer. Many viewers are hoping to see Ryan Eggold reprise his role as Ed Ramsey, the disturbing serial killer, who survived the first season. Eggold has hinted that his return was considered, but he’s unsure if it will actually happen, telling TV Insider he doesn’t have any definitive information.
This season welcomes several new cast members, including Matthew Lillard (known from Scream and Scooby-Doo) as the businessman Durand, along with Wes Chatham and Jeanine Mason. Chatham is a familiar face from The Expanse, while Mason has starred in popular shows such as Roswell, New Mexico, and Grey’s Anatomy.
Chatham will star as Donnie, a former military man with extremist political beliefs. Mason will play Rebecca, a highly intelligent, driven, and vengeful judge. The trailer suggests she is the dangerous criminal the story follows, and she seems to be involved in strange religious rituals.
Michelle C. Bonilla has joined the cast as Clare, a complex and resilient woman with a troubled past. Bonilla is known for her work on 9-1-1: Lone Star, and has recently made appearances in episodes of High Potential and On Call.
How Cross Season 1 Ended
Alex faced a challenging case involving the death of a Black Lives Matter activist. He suspected foul play, believing the death wasn’t accidental, and his investigation pointed to a serial killer named Ed Ramsey. After a complex pursuit, Alex finally confronted Ramsey, proving his initial instincts were correct.
Instead of letting Ed become famous as a serial killer like his heroes, Alex had him declared criminally insane. He ensured Ed was only charged with the most recent murder and the attack on his captive, blaming all the other crimes on Ed’s accomplice, Bobby. For Ed, being locked away in a mental institution with no recognition was a far worse fate than prison or even death, and Alex understood that.
Alex also dealt with someone harassing him and his family, which he traced back to a past investigation. Years ago, he’d interviewed a woman named Deirdre about a murder. He’d labeled her a psychopath due to her unemotional response to the crime and recommended to the judge that she remain imprisoned for life. This decision unintentionally…
Alex was unaware of her past: she was the daughter of a sex worker and had been raised by a woman named Miss Nancy. Nancy also cared for Peter Lenox, a young man who frequently found himself in difficult situations. When Peter was accused of murder, Nancy desperately asked Deirdre to falsely confess, hoping she would receive a less severe punishment due to her race and clean record.
Peter and Miss Nancy sought revenge, beginning with the murder of Alex’s wife, Maria. Miss Nancy was secretly Damon’s new piano teacher and had become friendly with Regina while secretly planning to harm them both. After a confrontation at her secluded cabin, where she intended to hurt Alex’s children, Nancy set herself on fire. Facing capture, she chose to end her life to escape the guilt, pain, and shame she felt.
Alex is finally at peace, but Elle is furious that he kept secrets about Ed from her. She feels he manipulated her to get near a dangerous person and risked her safety in the process, ending their relationship. Alex now understands he needs to address his unresolved grief over his wife’s death and has decided to start therapy to heal. He’s likely to return in Season 2 as a stronger, more well-adjusted person.
