Josef Fares reveals the status of Split Fiction’s movie adaptation
The movie based on the cooperative game Split Fiction is progressing well. Game director Josef Fares recently shared an encouraging, though careful, update in an interview with MovieZine.
Fares has confirmed the first draft of the screenplay for the movie Split Fiction has been delivered. However, he remains cautiously optimistic, stating he’ll believe it’s truly happening once he sees actual production begin (as reported by Dexterto). If everything moves forward as planned, the film could be released around 2027 or 2028. The script was written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, the team behind Deadpool and Zombieland.
Fans will be excited to hear that the director has met with Sydney Sweeney, the film’s lead actress. He described her as relaxed and enthusiastic about the project, “Split Fiction.” Details about Sweeney’s character are still being kept secret.
Split Fiction is giving fans a behind-the-scenes look at how their game is becoming a movie. The film adaptation was announced shortly after the game’s incredibly popular release in March 2025. The movie will be directed by Jon M. Chu, known for his work on films like Wicked and In the Heights.
Split Fiction is a game about two writers – a fantasy author and a science fiction author – who get stuck inside the worlds they’ve created. This happens because of a machine that’s designed to steal their ideas. Development on the game is progressing, but there’s no confirmed release date yet.
