The upcoming God of War series on Amazon MGM will present a new take on Thor, differing significantly from the portrayal we’re used to. For over ten years, Chris Hemsworth has been the face of Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, this new series, inspired by the 2018 video game, focuses on Kratos battling Norse gods and will introduce its own unique version of Thor, with the creators confident they’ve found the ideal actor for the role.
Prime Video has confirmed that Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, an Icelandic actor, will play Thor in the upcoming God of War series. Ólafsson is widely recognized for his role as Mr. Drummond in the Apple TV+ show Severance. He’s also appeared in several other popular TV series, including NOS4A2, Emerald City, and The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance. On the big screen, he’s been in films like The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, The Last Witch Hunter, and How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World. He recently joined the live-action How to Train Your Dragon franchise as the villain Drago. Beyond acting, Ólafsson has provided the Icelandic voiceover for numerous animated movies, including Lilo & Stitch, Kung Fu Panda, and Ice Age.
