Utawarerumono: Past and Present Rediscovered launches worldwide on May 27 via Steam

After Aquaplus announced the game’s release date in Japan this week, Shiravune confirmed that Utawarerumono: Shiro he no Michishirube will be available worldwide on PC (Steam) on May 27th. The game will be known as Utawarerumono: Past and Present Rediscovered in English, and will feature Japanese voice acting with text options in Japanese, English, Traditional Chinese, and Simplified Chinese.

The game will launch on Steam at the same time as it does in Japan. The Japanese release will also be available on PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2. Currently, there’s no word on when the PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2 versions will be released outside of Japan.

They just dropped a new trailer and the opening cutscene for the game, and I’m sharing them with you right here!

Opening Movie

Shiravune is excited to share that the new RPG, Utawarerumono: Past and Present Rediscovered, from AQUAPLUS, will be released on Steam in English this May.

This game continues the story of Monochrome Mobius: Rights and Wrongs Forgotten and is a significant addition to the Utawarerumono series. Players will rejoin Oshtor, Munechika, Mikazuchi, and Shunya as they begin a new journey, facing a growing threat to the Yamato Empire.

The game plays like a classic Japanese RPG with a large world to discover. Battles are turn-based, but feature a unique Action Ring system, and players can use special masks from the Utawarerumono series during combat. You’ll meet both new and familiar faces – some will help the heroes, while others will stand in their way – as the story unfolds.

As of January 29th, the game is now available for wishlisting on Steam!

Introduction

Long, long ago, in the distant past… or was it in the far-off future?

The mighty empire of Yamato exists at peace under the rule of its god incarnate the Mikado.

Oshtor, Mikazuchi, Munechika, and Shunya are remembered as heroes for driving back an invasion from the ancient land of Arva Shulan.

Yet once more, a shadow falls over the nation.

Monsters are appearing all over the country, and what seemed like separate events are starting to connect, pointing to a larger threat. Meanwhile, former allies are working together to figure out how to react.

As they start their new adventure, they can’t possibly imagine what incredible things are in store for them—stories are told of it in old legends.

Far away, a hidden place remains shrouded in mist—but a peaceful rest is about to be broken.

Characters

Oshtor, voiced by Kentaro Tone, is a warrior originating from the remote Ennakamuy province. After the events of Monochrome Mobius: Rights and Wrongs Forgotten, he became the Imperial General of the Right – one of Yamato’s two top military leaders. He always wears a mask passed down from his former teacher, Dikotoma.

Shunya, voiced by Yuko Minaguchi, is a traveler from the faraway land of Arva Shulan. She journeyed with Oshtor and his companions, but is now recovering in the Ennakamuy mountains.

Munechika, voiced by Saori Hayami, is the daughter of Murasame, a leader from Izumo. Though she seems quiet and well-mannered, Munechika hides a growing strength and the heart of a warrior.

Mikazuchi, voiced by Yuya Uchida, is a man from Ashiwara, known as the City of Squalls. After the events of Monochrome Mobius: Rights and Wrongs Forgotten, he became the Imperial General of the Left, one of Yamato’s Twin Shields. He wears a family heirloom mask, once belonging to a powerful ancestor.
