The upcoming reboot of “Highlander,” starring Henry Cavill, is generating a lot of buzz online after the release of the first photos. Fans are particularly excited about Cavill’s appearance and how it suggests a fresh take on the beloved film.
Fans are loving Henry Cavill’s first Highlander look
Henry Cavill has given fans their first glimpse of his character in the upcoming reboot of “Highlander,” directed by Chad Stahelski. He shared two photos on Instagram showing him with a sword, seemingly in Hong Kong and New York City. Cavill expressed his excitement about the project, saying it’s been a long journey and he’ll share more details later. He hopes fans enjoy the first look.
Henry Cavill’s recent post might be about the leg injury he suffered in 2025 during training for the movie, which caused filming to be postponed. Production is now underway, and the film is expected to hit theaters in 2027. Cavill stars as a 500-year-old immortal warrior skilled in many fighting styles, carrying on the story from the popular 1986 film with Christopher Lambert.
Director Chad Stahelski explained that the new project will span centuries and continents, moving from the Scottish Highlands in the early 1500s to modern-day New York and Hong Kong. He described it as a love story, but one that’s unconventional. Stahelski says he learned from his work on ‘John Wick’ how to creatively shape the narrative, calling it a new kind of myth. He also revealed that Henry Cavill’s character is someone who never asked for his current circumstances, and the audience will see a character with over 500 years of training (according to The Direct).
Fans on X expressed excitement about the upcoming film. One user simply wrote, “I like Henry Cavill. I have hope for this.” Another predicted the combination of director Chad Stahelski and Henry Cavill wielding a sword would result in stunning action sequences, calling it “violence indistinguishable from fine art.” A third fan shared initial images of Cavill in the role, declaring it “peak cinema” and anticipating a fantastic movie.
The film stars Russell Crowe, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, and Marisa Abela. Djimon Hounsou, Max Zhang, and WWE’s Drew McIntyre, as Angus MacLeod, are also featured in the cast.
