I’m so excited! Compile Heart finally revealed the RPG they were hinting at! It’s called Villion:Code, and it’s coming to PlayStation 4 & 5, and Nintendo Switch in Japan on June 25th. I can’t wait to play it!
The next game is set at Adhvan Resilience Academy, a school on a self-sufficient island town in Tokyo Bay. The island is home to about 6,000 people, mostly students from across the globe – only 30% are Japanese. After a pandemic, a mysterious bubble forms around the circular island, trapping everyone inside and preventing anyone from leaving or entering.

On the island, some people will misuse gene editing technology, transforming themselves into monstrous creatures called GEMs and creating dangerous dungeons that draw in other monsters. Players will be able to freely explore these dungeons from all angles, as each one has a different, randomly generated layout with branching paths.
When you encounter a monster in the dungeon, a fast-paced, real-time battle begins. Your party members can transform their arms into weapons using advanced genome technology – these are called Genome Arms. Battles happen in a ring-shaped arena, and anyone – friend or foe – can be instantly defeated if they’re knocked out of the ring.

The game will draw inspiration from Buddhist principles in several ways. Combat will revolve around the Six Elements of Buddhism—Earth, Water, Fire, Air, Space, and Consciousness—determining strengths and weaknesses. Furthermore, the game’s dungeons will be designed around the concept of the Ten Evil Acts.
The anime Villion:Code will feature music by FRAM, including the opening theme “Rebirth Code” and the ending theme “Echoes of Tomorrow.”
I was reading the latest issue of Weekly Famitsu, and the producer, Kouji “Cozy” Okada, shared a bunch of interesting details during his interview – it’s really getting me excited!
- Villion is a portmanteau from “virion” and “billion”
- Around 20 characters will have unique illustrations, including the 6 main characters. The other 5 main characters will also have their own sub-stories that will be fully voiced like the main story.
- The protagonist is fixed to be male. He will only speak during battles and conversation choices.
Check out the official reveal trailer and screenshots for Villion:Code below. After that, you’ll find detailed biographies of the game’s six main characters.

Main Characters
The six main characters all attend Adhvan Resilience Academy and live in the Mano dormitory. They’re all studying Life Science within the Science and Engineering Faculty, except for Rika, who is a first-year student and hasn’t yet chosen a specific major or faculty.
- Protagonist (voiced by Kengo Kawanishi) – 17 years old, 6th-year student, joined Basketball Club
You are a talented boy who skipped a grade after enrolling, and now you are in your 6th year when other people your age would’ve been in the 5th year. Rika is your younger cousin, and you also have a close friend in Susilo. In order to pursue the culprit of a certain incident, you will form the Adhvan Rebs group with Susilo and others.
- Rika Hayashi (voiced by Aoi Nagatsuki) – 13 years old, 1st-year student, joined Occult Research Club
The protagonist’s younger cousin, who was raised together with you like real siblings during childhood. Although she cannot calm down, this energetic girl can also act like a moodmaker who can calm the situation in the protagonist’s group. She also actually has some health concerns due to asthma.
- Susilo Sugiono (voiced by Shunsuke Takeuchi) – 19 years old, 5th-year student, joined Basketball Club
An Indonesian male student who is cheery and kind, like a big brother. As the captain of the basketball club, he has a strong desire to protect his juniors to the point that his friends are annoyed at him for being too meddlesome. His friendship with you as the protagonist is very close, like real brothers.
- Anastasia Ivanovna Valerievtskaya (voiced by Aimi) – 18 years old, 6th-year student, joined Cosplay Club
A cosplayer who likes anime and is popular on social media. She has a sharp wit and can get things done well, but she also tends to find things bothersome. She normally acts guarded and unsociable, but those who get along well will find her to be more passionate and willing to physical touches. She is also stubbornly superstitious.
- Chloe Berjhe (voiced by Asami Shimoda) – 14 years old, 3rd-year student
An innocent female student who loves nature and animals, as she was raised in a natural environment. She had a history of getting suspended from school for refusing animal experiments. She is good at studying thanks to her instant memorization ability, but is bad at interacting with people. However, she can let off a rather relaxed expression to her close friends.
- Oliver Heath (voiced by Atsushi Tamaru) – 15 years old, 4th-year student, joined Debate Club
An atheist male student who is derisive and isolated. He always reaches top grades and regularly wins in debates, but in his private life he tends to be hated due to his cynicism. Among his friends, Susilo often tries to get him involved, but he always ignores him.
