If you’re looking for a change of scenery from the snowy landscapes of the recent God of War games, you might be interested in a new report. Tom Henderson, a reliable source in the gaming industry, recently shared information suggesting the next God of War game will take place in ancient Egypt, seemingly confirming long-standing rumors.
Henderson reports that the next God of War game will feature new weapons, including a curved Egyptian sword called a Khopesh. This strongly hints the game will be set in ancient Egypt. He notes the Khopesh is similar to weapons used in the *Prince of Persia* series.
Henderson says that two new *God of War* games are reportedly in the works. One is a smaller-scale, 2.5D action game – similar to a Metroidvania – set in ancient Greece. It would focus on a younger Kratos and his relationship with his father. Leaks about this game surfaced a few months ago, and reports of a 2026 release have now been confirmed. Interestingly, it’s believed this game will be officially revealed during an upcoming State of Play event, potentially in September.
So, the next game we’re getting is a proper sequel to Kratos’ story, and it sounds like it’s going to take us to Egypt! I’ve been hearing whispers about this for ages, and the latest news is making it seem more and more likely. Honestly, it’s really starting to feel like it’s actually happening!
While there’s a lot of buzz, Sony and Santa Monica Studio haven’t confirmed these projects officially. We might find out more details in the near future.
