Ana de Armas is a rising star in Hollywood, and her fame is likely to grow even more with her latest role. She’s set to star in “Sweat,” a new psychological thriller directed by J Blakeson. The film is based on a Polish movie of the same name that was shown at the 2020 Cannes Film Festival, and it features de Armas as a popular fitness influencer with a large online following.
Ana de Armas will star as Emma Kent, a fitness influencer hoping to become as famous as her idol, Kat Highbrook, according to The Hollywood Reporter. But after a negative encounter with Kat, Emma finds herself in danger, stalked by Trent, an obsessive fan. His intense infatuation forces Emma to re-evaluate her demanding lifestyle and how far she’ll go to achieve fame.
I’m really intrigued by this new film – it seems like Hollywood is increasingly fascinated with the downsides of fame, and this one looks like it’s going to dive deep into that darkness. We’ve seen some amazing explorations of this recently, like Demi Moore’s intense film The Substance, Max Minghella’s Shell, and Ana de Armas’ powerful performance in Blonde, which even got her an Oscar nod! The director is jumping right in, starting production at the end of March in both the UK and LA, and I’m excited to see what they come up with.
