The fourth episode of Wonder Man surprisingly featured a little-known Avengers character from the comics, and cleverly incorporated them into the storyline of Simon Williams (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II).
This isn’t a typical superhero story. It centers on Williams, an actor in Hollywood who’s trying to get the main role in a movie called “Wonder Man.” He receives unexpected help from Trevor Slattery – the actor played by Sir Ben Kingsley who famously pretended to be the Mandarin in “Iron Man 3” and also appeared in “Shang-Chi.”
Slattery isn’t helping Williams out of kindness; he’s working for the Department of Damage Control and is supposed to gather proof that Williams has superpowers. While TopMob found the show’s opening a bit weak, it’s good to see Marvel experimenting with a satirical take on Hollywood.
Wonder Man also includes several Easter eggs for fans, such as the debut of Doorman, a character who’s part of a relatively obscure Avengers group.
Who is Doorman in the Marvel Comics?

Doorman, whose real name is DeMarr Davis, is a mutant with a unique power: he can turn his body into a doorway to another dimension called the Darkforce Dimension. This allows him to teleport himself and others, and also to create objects made of Darkforce energy to use in battle.
He made his debut alongside the Great Lakes Avengers in West Coast Avengers #46 in 1989. The team came together when Mr. Immortal placed an ad in the newspaper seeking members for a new superhero group based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. They’re mostly lesser-known heroes who often create more problems than they solve, despite their good intentions.
The interplay between these characters shines in the 2016 Great Lakes Avengers comic series by Zac Gorman and Will Robson. Interestingly, Doorman’s fellow Avenger, Mr. Immortal, made a quick appearance in the She-Hulk TV show, where he was facing a lawsuit from several ex-wives he’d left behind after faking his death and starting over with a new identity.
MCU Doorman is why superheroes are banned in Hollywood

Within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the character Doorman is the reason superheroes are now prohibited from working on movie and television sets. Interestingly, DeMarr Davis, who plays Doorman (Byron Bowers), didn’t gain his abilities through being a mutant, but by coming into contact with a strange, black substance he found in a Roxxon dumpster.
He found himself in a strange place covered in doors – a realm known to comic book readers as the Darkforce Dimension – and quickly understood he’d developed a power that allowed him to travel between dimensions.
Davis later used his ability to rescue people during a fire at his workplace, guiding them to safety through one of his doors. Among those he saved was actor Josh Gad, and the two went on to collaborate on a heist movie called “Cash Grab,” where Davis’s power to open doors became a central part of the plot.
Davis’s newfound fame actually creates more problems than it solves. People begin to mock his signature phrase, “Ding, dong!”, and he turns to alcohol. While filming with Gad, he’s suffering from a hangover and feels unwell when a stunt goes wrong, accidentally launching him into the Darkforce Dimension and trapping him there permanently.
This situation has caused Hollywood to unofficially ban superheroes from appearing in films and shows – a practice known as the “Doorman Clause.” Fortunately, the creator of the Wonder Man series recently shared what will happen with Gal Gadot’s character in an interview with TopMob.
