I was really excited about the Iron Lung movie, since I loved the video game! But I just heard it’s been given a rating that means anyone under 15 in the UK won’t be able to see it in theaters. That’s a bit of a bummer, but honestly, knowing the game, it makes sense!
Dave Szymanski created the video game Iron Lung, which quickly gained praise for its intensely psychological horror. The game takes place inside a submarine traveling through a sea of blood on a lonely moon.
Mark Fischback, better known as Markiplier, has created a movie based on his popular game. He wrote, directed, and stars in the film, which premiered in the United States last night.
The new movie ‘Iron Lung,’ made by a popular YouTuber, is being released in theaters this weekend. However, the British Board of Film Classification has restricted some showings, meaning younger fans won’t be able to see it in all cinemas.
Why younger UK fans can’t watch Markiplier’s Iron Lung in cinemas

The British Board of Film Classification has rated Iron Lung as suitable for ages 15 and up, meaning it cannot be shown to anyone younger in cinemas.
The film received a general rating due to strong language, violent imagery, and intimidating scenes. Specifically, reviewers gave it a 3 out of 5 for violence, a 4 out of 5 for both frightening content and harsh language, and a 4 out of 5 for graphic injury depictions.
So, the movie got an R rating here in the States – basically meaning some strong language, bloody scenes, and a bit of gore. But honestly, it’s not a hard R. The rating board says if you’re under 17, you can still see it as long as you’re with a parent or another adult. It’s good to know I won’t have to wait to play this one!
Okay, so here’s the deal with the story in Iron Lung. Basically, all the stars and planets just… vanished. Everyone out in space – on stations or ships – were the only ones left to witness it, and they called it ‘The Quiet Rapture.’ It’s a super creepy setup, and honestly, it really sets the mood for what’s coming!
For years, the structures and systems of the Consolidation of Iron have been falling apart. Now, they’ve made a startling discovery on the desolate moon known as AT-5: a vast ocean of blood. Driven by the need for resources, they’ve quickly sent out a team to investigate.
A prisoner is sealed inside a specially built submarine. The front window is heavily reinforced to withstand the immense pressure and depth of the ocean. If the mission succeeds, the prisoner will be granted freedom. If it fails, another convict will take their place. This is the thirteenth such attempt.
The movie Iron Lung will be released in the UK on January 29, 2026, and in the US on January 30, 2026. Regal Cinemas is offering a fun promotion: if you 3D print your own bucket and bring it to a showing, you’ll get free popcorn!
