The showrunner for Disney+’s Wonder Man, Andrew Guest, has discussed potential storylines for a second season. The first season, a comedy satirizing Hollywood, received positive reviews, and viewers are eager to know what’s next for characters Simon Williams (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) and Trevor Slattery (Ben Kingsley). While Marvel hasn’t officially confirmed a renewal, Marvel Television executive Brad Winderbaum has stated that Season 2 is being considered, depending on audience viewership.
Andrew Guest, the creator of Wonder Man, recently gave TopMob an exclusive interview before the show premiered on Disney+. They discussed possible storylines for a second season, but a decision about the show’s continuation hasn’t been made yet.

A viewer mentioned that Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, while filming, questioned if his character, Simon, had lost his ability to use his powers, as the Department of Damage Control was aware of them. This could potentially limit the actor’s future role, possibly due to a clause in his contract that’s setting up the introduction of the X-Men into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
I’m really interested in the future of Wonder Man. What long-term plans have you discussed for the show? If it gets a second season, are there any specific stories or ideas you’d be excited to explore with these characters?
As a huge fan, I was so fascinated hearing about what could happen with Simon Williams! Apparently, while we were wrapping up filming the finale, Yahya came to me with something wild. He basically said Simon had lost the ability to convincingly pretend to not have powers. He explained that the DODC now knew Simon did have superpowers, which was a huge turning point!
The person in charge of the Marvel Cinematic Universe show explained that Damage Control now knows about Billy Maximoff’s four main powers, thanks to the Disney+ series. However, they suggested a compromise might be reached between the two sides.
I thought, ‘The Department of Defense clearly knows about this, but they might not want to publicize it. Perhaps Simon and the DODC are negotiating some kind of compromise, a give-and-take situation.’ I believe we can resolve this issue if we’re given the chance to work it out.
Guest assured fans that Wonder Man will return and promised they’ll find a way to free Josh Gad from his situation involving the character Doorman.
“We’ll also get Josh Gad free. He’s gonna come out Doorman in a Season 2, I promise.”
TopMob recently interviewed Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Ben Kingsley, the stars of Wonder Man, about the possibility of another season. Kingsley, who previously played the Mandarin in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, shared that he wants to be “completely surprised” by the show’s future direction.
If there were ever a second season or another continuation of the story with either of these characters, what aspect of them would you be most excited to delve into further, or what new side of their personality would you like to explore that we haven’t seen yet in Wonder Man or any previous iterations?
Kingsley says he’d welcome being genuinely surprised if that situation ever happened. He’s excited about the possibility of being in a creative space – whether it’s a writing room, rehearsal space, or office – and having his expectations overturned.
Mateen: Yeah, that would be nice. Yeah.
Kingsley: Wouldn’t that be great?
Mateen: Yeah, that’d be nice.
Here’s What Could Happen in Wonder Man Season 2

The series Wonder Man concluded with mixed results for Simon Williams and Trevor Slattery. Slattery was fired from the show and imprisoned in a high-security military prison after pretending to be the Mandarin to protect Williams, who had accidentally caused significant damage to the studio lot with his superpowers.
Luckily, Williams managed to free his new friend from Hollywood, using a mix of clever spying and his superpowers. This could be seen as a perfect, happy ending for the two, or just the start of a life on the run from the Department of Defense’s Covert Operations division.
If Wonder Man gets a second season, Marvel Studios might begin to develop Yahya Abdul-Mateen II’s character more fully as a traditional superhero. Although his character already possesses the iconic ionic powers from the comics, he hasn’t yet fully embraced the Wonder Man role he’s known for as an Avenger.
Although Simon Williams isn’t joining the Avengers right now in the main Marvel universe (Earth-616), the second season of Wonder Man could explore his growth as a hero by having him battle a classic supervillain. Hopefully, the show will continue to capture the fun, Hollywood vibe that made the first season so enjoyable.
It might be a while before Marvel Studios decides whether to make another season of Wonder Man. They often take their time deciding about renewals. However, if the show gets a lot of viewers, they might make a decision more quickly, as the studio is aiming to release new seasons of its Disney+ shows every year.
