Ryan Coogler’s hit horror film, , recently earned the most Academy Award nominations ever. Now, with a 97% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, has overtaken Leonardo DiCaprio’s newest movie in streaming popularity.
As of January 25th, Sinners and The Smashing Machine are both currently the most-watched titles on HBO Max, according to FlixPatrol. The Michael B. Jordan film has overtaken The Holdovers, which is now in third place on the streaming service.
Ryan Coogler’s film, Sinners, starring Michael B. Jordan as twin brothers Smoke and Stack, grossed over $368 million worldwide after its release in April 2025. The movie also features Jack O’Connell, Hailee Steinfeld, Miles Caton, Delroy Lindo, and Wunmi Mosaku. Sinners tells the story of Smoke and Stack returning to their Mississippi Delta hometown in the 1930s, where they discover a looming threat awaits them.
At the January 2026 Golden Globe Awards, Sinners won two awards, including Best Original Score for Ludwig Göransson. The film received 16 Oscar nominations, recognizing Jonathan Majors for Best Actor (as Smoke/Stack), Thuso Mbedu for Best Supporting Actress (as Annie), and Delroy Lindo for Best Supporting Actor (as Delta Slim). Ryan Coogler is also nominated for both Best Director and Best Original Screenplay. Both Sinners and One Battle After Another are contenders for Best Motion Picture of the Year.
One Battle After Another Gets Praise from Iconic Director
With 13 Oscar nominations, One Battle After Another closely followed Sinners. The film has already won several awards, including recognition for director Paul Thomas Anderson, who took home Best Director and Best Screenplay at the Golden Globes. Teyana Taylor also won a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress. The movie features a star-studded cast including Leonardo DiCaprio, Teyana Taylor, Sean Penn, Benicio del Toro, Tony Goldwyn, and Regina Hall.
The film One Battle After Another has received positive reviews, earning an 85% score on Rotten Tomatoes and grossing $202.8 million worldwide. One viewer, after seeing an early screening, simply described it as “an insane movie, oh my god.”
He went on to say that the first hour of this film has more excitement than all of my other films combined. He found it incredibly inventive and bizarre, yet surprisingly relevant – even more so now than when it was initially written and made.
