Many new shows are planned for 2026, but the most anticipated is likely Stuart Saves the Universe, the follow-up to The Big Bang Theory on HBO Max. After a long period of development, filming began in September. While the main cast has been known for a while, and some original actors are appearing in new roles, fans are still waiting to hear if Kaley Cuoco and other TBBT stars will make an appearance.
Kaley Cuoco pretty much revealed the news herself, even without directly confirming it. While talking to Entertainment Tonight about her new show, Vanished, she clearly struggled to hide her reaction when asked about potentially returning as Penny. It wasn’t her words that gave it away, but her obvious facial expressions – she couldn’t hide her excitement!

Those eyes are huge – much bigger than you’d expect. It’s not the look someone gives when delivering bad news, or hinting they might return to a project if things work out. This is the face of someone who has either already filmed new material, or is definitely committed to doing so very soon.
While her lower face didn’t reveal much, Kaley Cuoco’s expression above her mouth was very revealing, and she even mimicked how Cassie DiLaura described it.
Big eyes! I don’t know what that tells you. . . . It’s just big eyes.
Since the news about the new show came out, fans have been hoping to see the original roommates from The Big Bang Theory make an appearance. Even when the show was first announced and it seemed Kaley Cuoco might be too busy for a return to a sitcom, people still held out hope for her character, Penny, to reappear. That excitement increased when Cuoco and Johnny Galecki worked together again in 2025, although it was just for a commercial and had nothing to do with The Big Bang Theory.
While Kaley Cuoco’s somewhat unconvincing reaction might be enough to satisfy fans for now, it’s highly likely her character, Penny, will appear in the first season of Stuart Fails to Save the Universe. Perhaps not the original Penny, but maybe an AI version – Stuart could easily create a digital assistant based on her.
When asked about how she feels about the character that made her famous, Cuoco explained:
I absolutely adore Penny! She’s a character who’s really made an impact on me, both in my career and in my personal life. It’s been an incredible experience, and I’ve grown so much through it.
Will Johnny Galecki return to his role as Leonard in a potential Big Bang Theory spin-off? I doubt Kaley Cuoco would be thrilled to answer that question, though!
